The Quality and Commissioning Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supporting and executing mechanical quality control and commissioning activities within a semiconductor manufacturing facility and other mission-critical environments. This role ensures that mechanical systems are installed, tested, and commissioned in accordance with design intent, client standards, and applicable codes, while maintaining a strong focus on safety, reliability, and operational readiness.
The ideal candidate brings deep facilities engineering or maintenance experience within the semiconductor industry, combined with hands-on commissioning exposure, and is comfortable working in active construction, startup, and operational environments.
Responsibilities:
Commissioning & Functional Testing
- Support and execute the commissioning process for data center and semiconductor facility mechanical systems to ensure systems, components, and equipment operate efficiently and meet design specifications.
- Conduct functional performance testing (FPT) of mechanical and other critical systems in accordance with project commissioning plans, procedures, and client requirements.
- Verify that installed equipment and systems meet design intent, project specifications, and applicable regulatory and industry standards.
Risk Assessment & Safety
- Perform project risk assessments prior to the execution of major testing and commissioning activities.
- Implement appropriate control measures to mitigate risk during system startup, testing, and functional performance activities.
- Maintain a strong safety-first mindset and ensure compliance with site EHS policies, LOTO procedures, and safe commissioning practices.
Field Coordination & Stakeholder Interface
- Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with contractors, vendors, controls teams, and field personnel to support successful commissioning execution.
- Coordinate field activities to resolve installation, testing, and performance issues efficiently.
- Support troubleshooting of mechanical system deficiencies in collaboration with construction, commissioning, and operations teams.
Systems & Technical Scope
- Support commissioning activities across a range of mechanical systems typically found in semiconductor and mission-critical facilities, including but not limited to:
- HVAC systems and mechanical utilities
- Chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and hydronic systems
- Exhaust and ventilation systems
- Fire protection systems (awareness level)
- Interfaces with security and life-safety systems (as applicable)
- Demonstrate a solid working understanding of mechanical and/or electrical equipment and design concepts used in data centers and semiconductor facilities.
Controls & Monitoring
- Utilize EPMS, SCADA, and/or BMS systems to support testing, verification, alarm validation, and system performance monitoring.
- Coordinate with controls and instrumentation teams to verify proper sensor installation, control logic, alarms, and trending during commissioning.
Documentation & Communication
- Document test results, deficiencies, observations, and resolutions in a clear, accurate, and professional manner.
- Support preparation and maintenance of commissioning documentation, including test scripts, reports, redlines, and turnover packages.
- Provide clear status updates and technical input to project stakeholders as required.
- Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned to you in your role.
Skills Required:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in facilities engineering or maintenance within the semiconductor industry.
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on commissioning experience in mission-critical or high-technology facilities.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems used in semiconductor fabs and/or data centers.
- Experience supporting functional performance testing and system verification activities.
- Demonstrated safety awareness and experience working under strict EHS requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail with a commitment to quality and documentation standards.
- Experience with EPMS, SCADA, and/or BMS platforms (software and/or hardware).
- Familiarity with both mechanical and electrical systems integration in mission-critical facilities.
- Experience with HVAC, fire protection, security systems, and life-safety interfaces in data center or fab environments.
- Prior experience working in cleanroom or high-purity environments.
Education / Licenses / Certifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (highly desirable, not required).
- High School Diploma required.
- Trade certifications are an advantage.

This hourly rate is intended for local candidates within commuting distance of the site. Please note that local candidates are not eligible for per diem.
This rate is intended for traveling candidates, who may also be eligible for per diem of up to $1,500 per week. Per diem is only available to employees who maintain a qualifying tax home and incur duplicate living expenses while working away from home.
