Job Description
Uvalde Memorial Hospital is seeking a PRN Registered Nurse (RN) House Supervisor to provide hospital-wide leadership, clinical support, and operational oversight during assigned shifts. This position serves as a key resource for nursing staff and hospital departments, helping ensure safe patient care, appropriate staffing, effective communication, and smooth hospital operations.
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse House Supervisor is responsible for overseeing hospital operations during assigned shifts and supporting high-quality, safe, and efficient care for patients. This role requires strong clinical judgment, leadership skills, and the ability to manage staffing needs, patient flow, emergency situations, and administrative concerns as they arise.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Coordination
- Supervise and support nursing staff across hospital departments during assigned shifts.
- Assist with staffing decisions based on patient census, acuity, and department needs.
- Serve as the administrative point of contact for hospital operations during the shift.
- Coordinate communication between nursing staff, hospital leadership, department managers, and other key personnel.
Clinical Support
- Serve as a clinical resource for staff and assist with complex cases, emergencies, and high-acuity patients as needed.
- Respond to Code Blue and other emergency situations to support clinical teams.
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and bed utilization to support patient flow.
Quality & Compliance
- Monitor compliance with hospital policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and patient safety standards.
- Conduct rounds throughout the hospital to assess patient care needs, safety concerns, and operational issues.
- Investigate and report unusual occurrences, incidents, or complaints and assist with appropriate follow-up.
Resource Management
- Assist with managing hospital resources, including staffing, equipment, and supplies.
- Make staffing-related decisions regarding call-ins, overtime, and shift coverage as needed.
- Provide a clear handoff of operational updates and concerns at the end of each assigned shift.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
Licensure/Certification
- Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Texas required.
- BLS for Healthcare Providers required.
- ACLS required.
- PALS required.
- TNCC required.
- ENPC required.
Experience
- Minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience required.
- Supervisory or management experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
Skills
- Strong clinical knowledge and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations.
Working Conditions
This position operates in a hospital clinical setting and requires an on-site presence during assigned shifts. The RN House Supervisor will work throughout patient care areas, administrative areas, and other designated hospital departments as needed.
Functional Demands
Job requirements include, but are not limited to, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, squatting, reaching, pushing, and pulling. This position requires good finger dexterity, repetitive motions with hands and fingers, and the ability to see and hear effectively. Heavy lifting may be required on an occasional basis.
