Job Description:
The Voids Technician plays a critical role in supporting risk management and mitigation within open pit mining operations. This position focuses on identifying, analyzing, and safely mitigating historic underground workings (voids) throughout the Cripple Creek & Victor Mine. The successful candidate will help ensure safe and efficient mining operations by planning and executing strategies to manage subsurface risks.
Day to Day:
Plan, schedule, and coordinate drilling campaigns to map out and analyze underground workings within the property
Build work plans within the mine plan and operations to either collapse, backfill, or mine around the voids
Communicate to mine operations and mine dispatch the plan and provide access around voids for both light vehicles and heavy equipment
Update mapped and scanned areas in mine planning CAD software
Apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results and follow SOP
Develop and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities. Devise new approaches to problems encountered. Work requires originality and judgment in the independent evaluation and resolution of problems associated with the interception of underground workings.
Understanding of 3-D underground model
Work and support the geotechnical team as needed
Is This You??
Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent relevant experience
Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a mining environment
No prior specialty experience required—training provided
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
Strong general computer skills
Experience with Leapfrog, Point Studio, AutoCAD, MinePlan, or similar software preferred
Ability to analyze data and make timely, informed recommendations
Working Conditions & Environment:
Role is based at the Cripple Creek & Victor Mine, located in Teller County, Colorado.
The Cripple Creek & Victor (CC&V) Mine site is located at elevations ranging from approximately 9,400 ft. to 10,600 ft. above sea level. Workers in this position are routinely exposed to conditions at various work sites throughout this range of elevations and must be physically capable of working at this altitude.
Weather conditions can and do change frequently and can become severe at times.
The summary provided is a basic outline of duties for the Voids Technician position and is not all-inclusive. For applicants residing in CO the salary range for this position starts at $75,000 to $85,000. Benefits: 401(k); medical/dental/vision insurance; employee share purchase plan, PTO, and STI.
