Job Description
The Service Planner I is responsible for assisting with the development and planning of the transit network, and other related planning activities at SORTA Metro.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develops maps, analyses and presentation documentation using GIS, Excel and other computer-based tools
- Develops population projections, maps and financial forecasts for SORTA’s plans and analyzes environmental and societal impacts
- Prepares background or summary reports, documenting project decisions and progress
- Assists with the preparation of transit strategies for inclusion in community and regional plans and programs, and conducts analysis and tasks to support corridor, service and regional planning
- Conducts research and technical analysis, field investigation, documentation and technical analysis
- Provides coordination and outreach for SORTA’s Short-Range, Long-Range and Transit Development Plans
- Prepares reports for presentation to City/County and other elected officials and public groups
- Assists with monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on transit system performance including on-time performance, ridership, miles, and hours
- Assists with monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on regional developments pertaining to population, employment, retail, housing, medical and commercial-industrial activities impacting mass transportation
- Assist in analysis, development, and implementation of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) services.
- Assists with developing forecasting and budget models for transit related services including passengers, fares, miles and hours
- Participates in public input meetings, public hearings and other forums
- Assist as assigned in special studies and projects
- Assists with monitoring, analyzing, and maintaining SORTA’s Automated Passenger Counting (APC) reporting systems
- Ability to work in compliance with Metro's safety and security policies.

Education
- Bachelor's Degree (in Urban Planning, Geography or related field)
Experience
- 6 – 12 months of experience in transportation, transit planning or analysis.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Computer Skills
- Advanced working knowledge of word processing, Excel and ArcGIS. Some working knowledge of database systems and presentations.
