About the role

Ansvar Australia, who are proudly part of the Benefact Group, are looking for a Senior Claims Consultant - Casualty & Financial Lines to join our Melbourne office.

The Senior Claims Consultant – Casualty & Financial Lines is responsible for the effective end-to-end management of a portfolio of both litigated and non-litigated claims across General Public Liability, Professional Indemnity, and Management Liability classes. The role requires the delivery of technically sound, policy-aligned, and commercially pragmatic outcomes, with a strong emphasis on litigation strategy, liability assessment, and proactive claims management.

The Senior Claims Consultant plays a key role in supporting the Claims Leader – Casualty & Financial Lines in driving portfolio performance, maintaining strong governance standards, and contributing to ongoing process and capability improvements. The role also supports Ansvar’s broader customer and broker value proposition, through the delivery of high-quality claims service, technical expertise, and insights that strengthen relationships and market positioning.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage a portfolio of Casualty & Financial Lines claims, including litigated and non-litigated matters, ensuring technically sound, policy-aligned, and commercially effective outcomes across the full claim lifecycle.

  • Develop and execute claim strategies, proactively managing investigation, liability, reserving, resolution, and escalation of complex issues, while representing the business at mediations and settlement discussions as required.

  • Deliver high-quality service to brokers and stakeholders, acting as a key point of contact, building strong relationships, and ensuring timely, transparent communication on claim progress and outcomes.

  • Support claims governance and performance improvement, including reserving accuracy, legal and supplier management, process optimisation, and adherence to regulatory and internal compliance standards.

  • Contribute to team capability and business improvement, sharing insights, supporting colleagues, maintaining industry knowledge, and assisting with strategic initiatives, projects, and continuous improvement efforts.

What you'll need to have

  • Stakeholder engagement and communication
    Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, brokers, clients, and partners, using effective communication and negotiation skills to influence outcomes and achieve business objectives.

  • Analytical thinking and sound judgement
    Strong capability to interpret data, assess complex claims, solve problems, and make balanced, well-informed decisions in line with business and regulatory requirements.

  • Insurance and legislative expertise
    Comprehensive knowledge of general insurance, including casualty/financial lines claims, combined with a sound understanding of relevant legislation, industry codes, and compliance obligations.

  • Customer focus and performance delivery
    Proven commitment to delivering high-quality customer service, consistently meeting deadlines, KPIs, and business targets while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Adaptability, teamwork, and continuous improvement mindset
    Positive, flexible, and team-oriented approach, with a willingness to embrace change, contribute to a supportive culture, and drive ongoing learning and improvement.

What makes you stand out

  • Degree qualification in relevant law discipline would be highly desirable

  • Minimum five years’ experience handling Casualty and/or Financial Lines claims
