Job Highlights
The Mechanical Insulator will be working closely with the Maintenance/Production Department in prioritizing work orders, preparing work and assisting the skilled trades where needed to ensure completion. This position will report to the Maintenance Supervisor directly.
- Fit insulation around process vessels, equipment and between joists and pipes for the purpose of thermal protection, fire resistance and condensation elimination
- Measure and cut insulating materials to required shape and dimensions using hand and power tools, including both permanent and temporary/removal insulation covers
- Work safely in a chemical plant environment as part of a team, or in an individual setting, complying with all LANXESS safety procedures and standards to complete planned and unplanned maintenance tasks as scheduled or assigned
- Work with Production & Maintenance to obtain safe work permits
- Maintain all tools, work areas, and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion per Lanxess standards, including periodic tool inspections
- Apply and secure insulation using spraying, blowing, pasting, strapping, taping and other application and installation methods
- Reading and following drawings and installation instructions
- Maintains site and industry specific safety training as required in a timely manne
Experience / Skills
- Current certification as Heat and Frost insulator
- Experience with safety permitting systems
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and layouts to determine insulation requirements
- Ability to select/determine type of insulation required
- Ability to measure, cut, fit insulating materials and required sheathing using hand and power tools.
- Ability to work at various heights and in all weather conditions.
- Ability to safely operate cranes and man lifting devices is necessary
- Be able to work to a high level of safety, either independently, or as part of a team.
- Familiar with Root Cause Analysis and FMEA principals
- Familiar and comfortable with computers and tablets for data entry, and work order processing.
- Be familiar, and comfortable working with programs such as excel, word, and SAP.
