Washcoat Operator

This level of work applies to time served (apprentice or in-role) operating (but not interrogating/programming) high complexity or quality critical processes under clearly defined production processes and procedures. Focuses on daily and weekly activities. Performance of multiple activities specific in objective and content.

The role:

As a Washcoat Operator, you will help drive our goals by:

• Carrying out standard washcoat operations safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards in line with Johnson Matthey and customer requirements.
• Monitoring and maintaining quality performance, supporting investigations into quality issues, and implementing corrective actions with appropriate technical support.
• Following standard operating procedures to meet production and delivery targets while identifying and escalating operational issues and improvement opportunities.
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives through lean manufacturing tools, problem-solving techniques, and 5S practices to enhance operational performance and reduce waste.
• Managing and accounting for raw materials, heels, and washings within allocated washcoat areas, investigating variances, and communicating outcomes using root cause analysis tools such as 5 Why.

Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:

• Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards, with the ability to identify and promote safety improvements.
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes, quality standards, and operational procedures within a production environment.
• Problem-solving and analytical skills, including experience with root cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team, communicate clearly, and escalate issues in a timely manner.
• Strong attention to detail, accountability, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
