In the Disability Services Caseworker role, you will be responsible for working collaboratively with children, families, adult individuals and guardians in identifying, and assessing support needs that are within the FSCD/PDD program mandate. You will assist in supporting children and adults with disabilities through assessments, referrals, service planning, collaborating with supports and services, and ongoing service monitoring. 

As a Disability Services Caseworker, you will be required to administer the FSCD and/or PDD program as outlined in Policy and Regulations for  PDD and FSCD.
 
Working within tight timelines, you will prioritize and manage deadlines for a variety of case management activities. Using your interpersonal and communication skills to build internal and external partnerships and manage conflict as it arises. Participating in a variety of working groups and team meetings will give you a chance to utilize your change management and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standards:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or Master’s Degree of Social Work with some related casework management employment experience.

Alternatively the following educational equivalencies are considered:
• Related Education: Related degrees in Social Sciences (Education, Community Rehabilitation Disability Studies, Psychology, Sociology etc.) with a minimum of two years of related employment experience; or related two-year diploma. (Rehabilitation Practitioner, Child and Youth Studies, Social Work, etc.) and 3 years related employment experience.

Preference will be given to candidates with a related degree in Social Work, Psychology, Community Development, Rehabilitation, or Disability Studies with 3 years of related casework management employment experience.
 

Please note: Successful applicants who possess a Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work from an accredited program (ACSW), or Diploma in Social Work from an Alberta College, will be required to register and maintain registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers.

 
Related employment experience:
• Casework management experience with individuals with disabilities, and/or children, and/or other vulnerable individuals. 
• Casework management activities such as screening for program eligibility, assessing support needs, risk evaluation and developing strategies for risk mitigation, service and transition planning, leading the implementation of plans, evaluation of the outcomes based on results, and prioritizing and managing a variety of tasks within tight timelines. 
• Planning and/or arranging services and support within the community, working in partnership with a broad range of stakeholders. 
• Exposure to various IT systems including but not limited to Microsoft 365, software databases or digital file systems.

 

A valid Class 5 operator's license and access to a reliable vehicle is essential, as travel is a requirement of the role.

Assets:
• Working with persons with disabilities to promote their independence and community inclusion. 
• Knowledge of a broad range of topics related to the disability field, relevant resources and case management practices. 
• Client interviewing and information gathering skills.
• Working collaboratively with families, community partners and other government programs. 
• Interpreting and applying government legislation, regulations and policy/procedures in practice.
• Awareness of local community resources and providing referral information.

Notes

Hours of work: Fulltime in office and community; 08:15am – 04:30pm 36.25 hours per week; Monday to Friday work week.

There are full-time permanent and temporary positions available, and we welcome applicants from the locations in the following worksites to support vacancies across our province.

South Zone: 
Medicine Hat, Drumheller, Lethbridge, Red Deer, Olds, Wetaskiwin, Camrose, Lloydminster, Wainwright, Brooks, Rocky Mountain House, Calgary. 

Travel is a requirement for the position and incumbents must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

A cover letter is required and should speak to skills and assets to demonstrate suitability for the position.

Final candidates for this competition will be asked to undergo an academic verification and security screening. Due to wait times to receive a completed Criminal Records Check (CRC) that includes Vulnerable Sector screening check, applicants that are invited for an interview are encouraged to request a completed CRC (level 1) that includes Vulnerable Sector screening check from their local RCMP/Police detachment prior to their interview. The CRC will only need to be provided upon request. Additionally, a current and clear Intervention Records Check will need to be provided upon request.

Any costs associated with obtaining the required documents/checks as noted or interview travel expenses, will be the responsibility of the candidate. Out-of-province applicants can obtain the required documents/checks from the province they currently reside in. 

Candidates who are successful in the selection process will be placed in a Talent Pool for 12 months. This competition will be used to create an eligibility list of qualified candidates to fill upcoming opportunities as vacancies arise in the location you apply to. Should you qualify, your resume is added to a qualified list for consideration for other opportunities at the same or lower classification levels.

As per the Health Professions Act, successful applicants must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) to be eligible for this position, if: (a) they have a degree in social work from any university in North America that is accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE) or the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE); or (b) they have graduated from an approved social work diploma program in Alberta; or (c) they have, within the last five years, been a registered, certified or licensed social worker in another province or with a member of the Association of Social Work Boards.
