
Landfill Attendant
Job Description
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $16.88 to $19.62.
The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
- Performs tire stacking duties by placing them inside a tractor trailer so that they can be shipped for processing. Handles all paperwork associated with tire collection. Processes recyclables that are brought to the baling facility. Assists with HHW events and voting machine delivery and pick up.
- Inspects and cleans out all heavy equipment radiators by pressure washing to prevent engine overheating. Cleans all landfill vehicles inside and out by washing the exterior and windows and by sweeping inside.
- Collects recyclables from recycling/convenience sites and brings back to the landfill as needed. Also provides supplies at each recycling site as needed. Helps clean recycling/convenience sites quarterly. Pulls unacceptable waste items/ recyclables from the MSW and C&D working face daily.
- Performs landscaping tasks by mowing, weed eating, and edging. Also cleans around curbs in front of landfill and all other duties as assigned by supervisor, (e.g., carpentry, general maintenance, etc.).
- Gathers litter throughout entire job site. Assembles and maintains litter fences around lined cells to prevent waste escaping.
- Fuels all heavy equipment daily so that landfill operations may continue uninterrupted.
- Controls traffic flow by flagging to assist customers whenever scales are down.
- Controls dust by distributing water on haul roads.
- Mixes and applies alternate daily cover material to the landfill each day.
- Makes sure supplies are stocked in scale house and maintenance shop.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License, without driving restrictions.
- Must be able to work varying work schedules between 6:00 am-6:30 pm Monday through Friday, and between 8:00 am-5:00 pm on Saturday (every other weekend).
- Must be able to work in an environment which exposes the employee to unfavorable health and weather conditions.
- Landscaping and carpentry skills a plus.
