Forest Lake Area School District is currently seeking applicants for the position of Substitute School Bus Aide to start ASAP.

Job Description:
The School Bus Aide provides essential support by supervising students during transport to and from school or school-sanctioned events. The primary goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers, particularly students with special needs, and to maintain a peaceful environment that allows the driver to operate the vehicle safely.
Key Responsibilities
? Student Supervision: Monitor student behavior to ensure all safety rules are followed (e.g., staying seated, keeping aisles clear, and maintaining appropriate noise levels).
? Special Needs Assistance: Assist students with physical or cognitive disabilities. This includes operating wheelchair lifts, securing mobility devices, and managing specialized medical or behavioral equipment.
? Loading & Unloading: Help students board and exit the bus safely, ensuring they are met by an authorized guardian where required.
? Emergency Response: In the event of an accident or breakdown, assist the driver in evacuating students and maintaining order until help arrives.
? Conflict Resolution: Intervene in student disputes and manage behavioral issues using school-approved de-escalation techniques.
? Communication: Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and administration regarding student needs.
? Any specific qualifications or licenses required?
Required Qualifications
? Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
? Clearances: Ability to pass a criminal background check.
? Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb bus stairs repeatedly, and assist students with physical mobility.
? Certifications: CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire).
Preferred Skills
? Experience working with children, especially those with special needs or behavioral challenges.
? Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
? A calm, patient demeanor under pressure.
