Job Description

Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and expert Literacy Coach to lead the implementation of evidence-based reading instruction at Wauka Mountain. This role is central to our commitment to the Georgia Early Literacy Act, focusing on empowering teachers through non-evaluative, job-embedded coaching. The successful candidate will spend time directly in classrooms, modeling Structured Literacy practices and using data to ensure every student becomes a proficient reader.

 


 

Key Responsibilities

  • Instructional Coaching: Provide hands-on support to teachers.  This may include co-teaching, modeling strategies, and conducting observation-based coaching cycles.
  • Science of Reading Implementation: Serve as the school-based expert on the Science of Reading, ensuring classroom instruction aligns with evidence-based practices in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
  • Data-Driven Leadership: Lead teacher teams in analyzing universal reading screener results and progress monitoring data to differentiate instruction and close achievement gaps.
  • Professional Development: Facilitate school-wide literacy support and professional learning communities (PLCs) focused on Structured Literacy and Georgia's literacy standards.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Partner with school administration to develop and monitor a comprehensive School Literacy Plan.

 


 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Certification: Must hold a valid Georgia Professional Teaching Certificate (Level 5 or higher).
  • Experience: A minimum of 3�5 years of highly successful K-5 classroom teaching experience with a proven track record of student growth in literacy.
  • Educational Background: Master's degree, minimum .
  • Specialized Endorsements: Preference given to candidates with a Reading Endorsement, Dyslexia Endorsement, or Teacher Leader/Coaching Endorsement.
  • Applicants must have training in the science of reading and have completed GA literacy modules.
  • Training: Familiarity with Structured Literacy training is highly desirable.

Core Competencies

  • Deep understanding of the Georgia Early Literacy Act and state-mandated literacy competencies as well as incorporating standards into literacy lessons.
  • Applicants must be well versed in Georgia Standards for various grade levels and be able to include them in rich literacy lessons.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with adult learners.
  • Ability to translate complex student data into actionable instructional plans.
