Assists the school bus driver with the supervision and securing of students on the school bus and assists in the safe and orderly transportation of students, including students with special needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to operate safety equipment.
- Ability to manage student behavior.
- Effective communication skills.
- Assist driver in performing pre- and post-trip inspections.
- Assist in keeping bus neat and clean.
- Supervise and assist students while they board and exit the bus and cross the street, following prescribed policies and procedures.
- Instruct students on safe entering, exiting and riding rules and regulations.
- Secure students in bus if necessary.
- Perform emergency evacuation of students on bus if necessary.
- Maintain effective student behavior management control over groups of students.
- Attend and complete required training, meetings, and staff development programs.
- Establish and maintain good rapport with students, parents, school personnel and co-workers.
- Complete and maintain accurate, updated and timely records and reports, including up-to-date route sheet for all assigned routes and daily non-notification forms.
- Assist and guide substitute driver to follow assigned route.
- Follow established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, assisting students, etc.
- Follow emergency procedures and help driver administer first aid if necessary.
- Report and collaborate with driver and supervisor regarding problems and concerns.
- Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner according to established safety procedures.
- Work cooperatively with driver to maintain safe conditions on the bus.

- Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions
- Occasional moderate lifting (15-44 pounds) and light carrying (under 15 pounds)
- Work inside and outside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, dampness, and humidity
- Moderate exposure to vehicle fumes
- Work around moving vehicles and machinery with moving parts
