The Nassau BOCES Department of Regional Schools and Instructional Programs (RSIP) is seeking Part-time Barbering Teachers to support In-District CTE programs. Candidates must have the ability to teach all students, including those with Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and 504s. Responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to:
Preparing students to work in a wide range of positions within the barbering field
Combining classroom and laboratory instruction for hands on learning
Teaching academic and professional skills for job acquisition, retention, and advancement
Emphasizing training in safety, sanitation, hair care, and the latest cutting/styling trends
Providing an overview of the salon industry and opportunities for professional growth
Creating lesson plans and course outlines to prepare students to work in various areas of the barbering field
Preparing students to take the New York State Barber Licensing Exam
Evaluating each student's progress as part of the record keeping
Requirements:
New York State Education Department Certification: Barbering 7-12 Transitional A
A valid New York State Barbering License
Four or more years of professional experience in barbering
Ability to network with professionals in the barbering field
Strong oral, written, and communication skills
Experience in shop management or ownership, including hiring practices
Experience working with secondary students is preferred
Salary: As per contract.
