Job Description

DESCRIPTION:

The Nassau BOCES Department of Special Education is seeking a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to provide services to students within our programs and the 56 Districts of Nassau County. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: 

 

  • Conducting Hearing Services screenings and re-evaluations for assigned students
  • Delivering individual hearing services, as per student Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 mandates

  • Delivering consultation services to teachers and other education staff, ensuring the learning environment is inclusive and accessible for each student to meet their educational needs

  • Maintaining accurate records, session notes and related documentation

  • Collaborating with teachers, administrators, parents and districts

  • Maintaining communication with and providing required documentation to supervisors

  • Participating in staff meetings and staff development workshops

  • Monitoring the use of assistive technologies, such as hearing aids, Hearing Assistive Technology (HAT) and cochlear implants

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • New York State Education Department Certification: Deaf and Hard of Hearing

  • Knowledge and experience working with students classified with hearing impairment and/or deafness

  • Strong written and verbal interpersonal skills

  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office

  • Experience with HAT and cochlear implants is preferred
