Full-time, tenure-track, benefits-eligible
This position is covered under the Closter Education Association and Closter Board of Education Collective Bargaining Agreement (2025�2026). The salary range for this position is $57,904 to $86,371, commensurate with degree and graduate credits as outlined in the negotiated salary guide. This salary range considers the applicant's experience, qualifications, and skill sets. This Position includes a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, prescription and dental coverage, tuition reimbursement, and sick and personal leave.
Closter Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and qualified ESL/ELL Teacher to join our middle school team. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality English as a Second Language instruction, supporting students' academic and social language development in a collaborative, student-centered environment.
Qualifications
• Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate with Elementary Education or appropriate endorsement (or eligibility)
• Knowledge of effective ESL teaching methods and developmentally appropriate instructional practices
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to foster a positive learning environment
• Must meet NJ residency requirements (or obtain residency within one year of hire)
• Satisfactory criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
Key Responsibilities
• Plan and deliver ESL instruction aligned with New Jersey Student Learning Standards and district curriculum
• Develop differentiated lessons and materials tailored to students' English language proficiency levels
• Assess student English proficiency and academic progress; maintain required records and complete annual eligibility determinations
• Design assignments addressing all four language domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing
• Collaborate with grade-level teams, the ESL Coordinator, and support staff to meet student needs
• Communicate regularly with parents and participate in the district's bilingual parent advisory committee
Terms of Employment
This is a ten-month, tenure-track position. Salary and benefits are established per the Agreement between the Closter Board of Education and the Closter Education Association. Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with New Jersey State law.
