Job Description
Primary Purpose:
Southwest ISD is seeking an energetic, innovative, and student-centered educator to serve as a Principles of Audio/Video Production Teacher. The ideal candidate will provide engaging, hands-on instruction that introduces students to the foundational skills of audio/video production, digital media, storytelling, broadcasting, editing, and production technology.
This teacher will create a classroom environment that promotes creativity, technical skill development, collaboration, and career readiness while aligning instruction to Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and industry expectations. The selected candidate will provide hands-on instruction, real-world learning experiences, and leadership opportunities while helping students develop technical expertise, professionalism, and college/career readiness.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level
assigned in one of the following (preferred):
? Technology Applications: Grades 8�12
? Technology Applications: Early Childhood � Grade 12
? Any approved Career and Technical Education classroom teaching certificate
Candidates may also qualify under Southwest Independent School District District of Innovation provisions if they meet the following:
? Minimum 5 or more years of verified work experience in Audio / Video Production, Broadcasting, Film, Media, Journalism, Production, or related field
? Demonstrated technical expertise and industry knowledge
? Must receive prior approval from CTE Administration and Human Resources
Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to teach and manage a classroom/lab environment effectively
Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills
Knowledge of student engagement strategies and project-based instruction
Ability to build a highly engaging and industry-relevant classroom program
Experience:
Student teaching, clinical teaching, teacher residency (preferred)
Experience teaching or working in:
- Audio/Video Production
- Broadcasting
- Digital Media
- Multimedia Design
- Film / Video Editing
Experience using industry-standard tools such as:
- Adobe Premiere Pro
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe Audition
- Canva
- CapCut
- Camera and audio equipment
- Experience with hands-on CTE instruction and student media production projects
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Teach Principles of Audio/Video Production courses in alignment with TEKS and district expectations.
- Develop and deliver engaging, project-based lessons focused on:
- Video production
- Camera operation
- Audio recording
- Editing software
- Storyboarding
- Script writing
- Broadcasting
- Media production workflows
- Prepare students for advanced coursework and future pathways in:
- Audio/Video Production
- Digital Communications
- Film
- Broadcasting
- Graphic Design / Multimedia
- Integrate industry-relevant tools, software, and equipment into daily instruction.
- Maintain and manage classroom/lab equipment, cameras, lighting, microphones, editing stations, and related technology.
- Foster a safe, organized, and highly engaging learning environment.
- Utilize instructional strategies that support diverse learners and promote student achievement.
- Collaborate with campus staff, CTE leadership, and industry/community partners to enhance student opportunities.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records for grades, attendance, and program documentation.
- Participate in district and campus professional development, meetings, and required trainings.
- Daily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (up to 40+ lbs.)
Environment: Occasional district-wide travel
Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, effective
management and public relation skills; maintain emotional control under stress
