Job Description
Primary Purpose:
Directs all aspects of the district-wide 6 -12 Mathematics instructional program including curriculum development, implementation, assessment, evaluation, and professional staff development.
Qualifications:
Education/Training:
Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics or related field
Master's Degree (preferred)
Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
Appraisal Training Certificate
Valid Texas Driver's License
Candidate must have a satisfactory outcome of the fingerprinting check/background check
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to organize and coordinate district-wide program
Expertise in data analysis to improve student achievement
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate effectively with administrators and teachers
Experience planning and implementing staff development
Experience:
Minimum of five years of teaching experience in Mathematics
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Articulates the district and department philosophy and expectations for the content area to administrators, teachers, and the community as the Coordinator of the 6 -12 Mathematics Program.
- Articulates the requirements of the 4x4 legislation and plans for additional Mathematic courses that will be required by ordering materials, providing professional development for teachers, and informing campus personnel and the community about the changes to the Distinguished and Recommended Graduation Plans.
- Consults with campus leadership and instructional staff to ensure a consistent and effective instructional program in Mathematics while meeting individual campus needs.
- Ensures compliance with all state and federal mandates in curricular issues and directs the implementation and monitoring of programs that support state and federal laws, guidelines, policies, procedures, and directives in Mathematics.
- Manages and maintains the budget and budgetary data for the Math program and AMI funds, including initiation and evaluation of bids for materials and supplies.
- Ensures that all new teachers in Mathematics are afforded appropriate support through the mentor program and direct consultation.
- Directs the development, implementation, monitoring, professional development and evaluation of summer school curriculum.
- Analyzes and communicates progress towards district goals and initiatives.
- Directs the development, implementation and evaluation of intervention programs at both the campus and district level.
- Coordinates the evaluation and selection process for textbooks in accordance with district policy.
- Evaluates, integrates and communicates current research on effective instructional practices in Mathematics.
- Analyzes district, campus, state and local testing data, working with district personnel to provide recommendations to meet the identified needs of all learners.
- Represents the district with regard to the instructional Math program at city, regional, state, and national meetings, committees, and conferences.
- Prepares in a timely manner all program reports, applications, and amendments as required, including reports to the Texas Education Agency and federal agencies.
- Monitors use, maintenance, and replacement of equipment and materials including maintenance of inventory at the campus, department, or district level.
- Participates in professional organizations related to Mathematics and Mathematics education.
- Seeks, accepts and responds to evaluative feedback from teachers, administrators, peers, supervisors, and other professionals.
- Develops relationships with state agencies, higher education, other groups to promote teacher support and student achievement.
- Daily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
