The Catholic school assistant principal serves not only as the educational leader but also as the spiritual leader of the school. Emphasizing qualities of excellence, commitment, creativity and innovation in all school endeavors, the assistant principal guides a Christ-centered community committed to the development of the whole child. The assistant principal works collaboratively with the Principal, Pastor, and the Director of Catholic Education/Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese.
Essential Duties:
- Sustains and strengthens the mission of St Ann Catholic School and the philosophy of Catholic education.
- Oversee curriculum and instruction in all classes K-8.
- Work with faculty on purposed curriculum changes.
- Develop course schedules and teacher assignments.
- Ensure curriculum distribution to faculty. Create, adjust & maintain daily course rotations.
- Oversee all faculty development, training, and retreats.
- Purchase curriculum including over the summer, receive and deliver it to classes.
- First administrative contact for concerns about student or teacher academic performance
- Ensure all faculty teaching licenses are up to date and assist with renewals.
- Conduct all faculty formal and informal observations.
- Assist new or struggling faculty with resources and mentoring.
- Coordinate annual testing. Communicate and interpret results of testing to faculty and parents.
- Consults with local law enforcement, emergency personnel and other experts to best prepare the school community for emergencies and critical incidents.
- Monitors student conduct during the school day, at assemblies and liturgies, and at school-sponsored activities.
- Determines the issuing of demerits, school suspensions and additional disciplinary action for offenses not specifically addressed by the Student Handbook in a manner that is reasonable and consistent.
- Meets with students and/or parents to address disciplinary concerns.
- Oversees the maintenance and upkeep of student disciplinary records.
- Generates letters to be sent to parents because of disciplinary probation and monitors students on disciplinary probation.
