Job Description
Visa is seeking an experienced and strategic legal leader to join as Senior Counsel supporting Visa's agentic commerce initiatives. This position reports to a Vice President, Visa Legal – Global Product, IP and Services.
This role serves as the primary legal architect for Visa's agentic commerce strategy. The Senior Counsel will operate with substantial independence, serving as a trusted legal advisor to senior business executives driving Visa's leadership in this emerging and rapidly evolving space.
The ideal candidate combines deep payments and technology law expertise with the executive presence, strategic vision, and sound judgment required to navigate first-of-kind legal questions at the intersection of artificial intelligence, digital commerce, and financial services regulation.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Legal Leadership: Develop and drive legal strategy for agentic commerce initiatives; serve as lead legal advisor on industry-defining initiatives; advise senior leadership on complex legal and regulatory matters; represent Legal in executive-level business discussions
Product Counsel: Provide sophisticated counseling on novel legal issues presented by emerging agentic models, including regulatory compliance, liability allocation, consumer protection, and data governance
Commercial Counsel: Develop templates and playbooks for our agentic products and partnerships; lead negotiation of high-value commercial agreements with technology partners, AI platforms, merchants, and financial institutions
This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in the office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
10 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD
Preferred Qualifications:
12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
Juris Doctor degree with 10 or more years or experience as in-house or outside counsel with deep experience advising on emerging technology in the financial services industry, including supporting global product launches and go-to-market efforts including contracting frameworks.
Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
Ability to build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with business partners and push projects to completion.
Have good judgment and strong analytical skills combined with a practical approach to problem solving.
A high level of self-motivation, initiative, and ability to operate effectively as a collaborative team player across different functions, senior leaders, and external stakeholders.
Ability to be responsive and flexible in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to details.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
International experience preferred, ideally with experience in complex cross jurisdictional projects, especially within a global/international company.

The estimated salary range for this position is $219,200.00 to $ 350,700.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Travel Requirements
This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
Mental/Physical Requirements
This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
