Job Description

Summary: The Undergraduate Research Assistant will support a faculty-led research project examining student learning, voice, and meaning-making in a reconciliation-focused university course. Working closely with the principal investigator, the student will assist with literature reviews, organizing research materials, preparing for interviews, transcription and data organization, qualitative coding and thematic analysis, memo writing, and knowledge mobilization activities such as presentations or reports. The position offers hands-on training in educational research methods, ethics, and scholarly collaboration. Duties and Responsibilities: Assist with literature searches and reviews related to education, reconciliation, student learning, and qualitative research Help organize research materials, references, and project documentation Support preparation for participant interviews, including scheduling, materials preparation, and communication logistics Assist with transcription, data cleaning, de-identification, and secure organization of research data Participate in qualitative data analysis, including coding, categorizing, memo writing, and identifying emerging themes Attend regular research meetings with the principal investigator to discuss progress, training, and next steps Contribute to summaries, reports, presentations, or other knowledge mobilization activities arising from the project Maintain confidentiality and always follow university research ethics protocols Complete assigned training related to research ethics, data management, and qualitative methods Participate in the USask SURE Summer Symposium (August) with the potential to present your research Perform related research support duties as appropriate to the project’s evolving needs Qualifications: Current undergraduate student at University of Saskatchewan in any discipline Strong interest in research related to education, student learning, reconciliation, or social inquiry Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work independently and manage time effectively while meeting deadlines Ability to work collaboratively as part of a research team Interest in learning qualitative research methods, interviewing, and data analysis Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar digital tools Previous coursework or experience in research methods is an asset Experience with transcription, coding, literature reviews, or academic writing is an asset Familiarity with Indigenous education, reconciliation, or equity-focused work is an asset Inquiries regarding this position can be directed to Dr. Laurel Forshaw at [email protected]
