Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides support for clients with substance/co-occurring disorders entering residential treatment through ensuring safety, assisting with emotional support, and sharing recovery-oriented perspectives to reduce fear, stigma, and resistance. The specialist collaborates with clinical and admissions staff to gather relevant background information, assist with orientation to the program, and ensure a smooth transition into treatment.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Aid with coordinating admissions for persons entering the Genesis Program, to include priority populations (i.e. pregnant and IV substance users) and managing bed counts.
  • Conduct admissions screenings and scheduling for Genesis residential program, as well as providing referral sources as needed based on recommended level of care.
  • Coordinate with clinics and community partners referring individuals for admission.
  • Assist with transportation to admissions location when need is determined
  • Facilitate “check in” once admitted to the Genesis residential program (may include but not limited to inventory of belongings, assisting client with completion of admission paperwork, UDS, and transporting to facility once admitted).
  • Explain and enforce program policies/procedures.
  • Perform supportive duties as assigned to provide additional support to individuals in recovery, to include outreach.
  • Perform client record maintenance as required for Pre-Authorizations and program licensure/certifications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification as an Adult Peer Support Specialist preferred or willingness to obtain certification within a 12 month period
  • Attest to having a minimum of one year personal recovery experience (if applicable)
  • Preference given to individuals with one year experience in substance use/co-occurring field and a working knowledge of the 12-Step recovery model
  • Must pass a Criminal Record Check and Sexual Offender Registry check
  • Must present proof of a recent (less than 1-year-old) TB skin test
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and active auto insurance that meets state minimum requirements

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS / EXPECTATIONS:

  • May require transporting clients to/from treatment.
  • Position is for a residential clinical treatment setting. Environment is fast-paced, client-focused, and may include exposure to individuals experiencing emotional distress, withdrawal symptoms, or behavioral instability. Requires ability to recognize such changes and respond appropriately, following crisis-prevention and de-escalation procedures.
  • Role encourages consistently upholding program rules and policies in a fair, respectful, and professional manner that provides corrective feedback and redirection to clients. Also requires ability to document and communicate incidents/concerns clearly to the clinical team.
  • Involves building rapport with clients, while maintaining clear therapeutic and ethical boundaries.
  • Position requires participation in ongoing training, supervision, and meetings to maintain skills and stay aligned with program expectations.
  • Role involves protecting client privacy in accordance with HIPAA and organizational standards.
  • Engage individuals at the point of admission with empathy, respect, and a nonjudgmental approach.
  • Provide emotional support and share recovery experiences appropriately to instill hope and reduce anxiety about treatment.
