WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a Dental Assistant with a desire to work in a variety of public health settings, playing a vital role in oral health care for those who do not traditionally have access to dental services. This position will work primarily community on the county mobile health van in addition to our county brick-and-mortar dental clinics. Your work will serve populations in need such as children, seniors, pregnant women and adults with limited access to dental care. The Dental Assistant will support both the patient and the dental team in our mobile health van and brick-and-mortar dental clinics, ensuring safe operations using current infection prevention and control measures and will provide important chair-side care.
- Provides clinical assistance to dental providers providing primary dental care.
- Responsible for providing patient education to clients - passes instruments and medications, keeps
- treatment area clear, assists during procedures, charting, documents medical history and medications,
- provides education to the client regarding procedures and post-procedure instructions.
- Places, exposes, and processes intra-oral radiographs.
- Monitors and implements effective infection control techniques and hazardous materials guidelines.
- Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains instruments and equipment.
- Provides technical support to the dental team in entering clinic data into electronic dental records and
- clinic statistics forms.
- Maintains dental supplies in the clinic; keeps inventory and orders supplies as necessary.
- Provide post-operative care.
- Assists in scheduling appointments, maintaining client records, and coordinating dental services.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- This position would require weekday day and evening hours.
- Flexible work hours totaling 40 per week, with a requirement to work one or two Saturday(s) and/or Sunday(s) monthly with advance notice.
- A minimum of 45 days in advance for weekday events, and 75 days in advance for weekend events.
Experience: One (1) year of experience as a Dental Assistant with clinical practice in dental patient care.
Education: Completion of high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.
Equivalency: Proof of completion of a Dental Assistant Program will be accepted in lieu of the experience requirement
CERTIFICATIONS:
• Candidates will be required to provide a registration card upon application, verifying they are on the
Maryland Board of Dental Examiners’ roster as a Dental Assistant, and continuation in the
classification requires maintenance of this registration.
• Certification in Radiation Technology to include an approved course of at least two (2) hours of infection control with OSHA protocol.• Possession and maintenance of an American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) or American Red Cross CPR for Professional Rescuers at the time of hire.
• Candidates will be required to provide a registration card upon application, verifying they are on the Maryland Board of Dental Examiners’ roster as a Dental Assistant, and continuation in the classification requires maintenance of this registration.

LICENSE:Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant's state of residence.
Preferred Criteria:
The applications of those individuals meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the extent, relevance of training, and experience in the following areas:
- Two or more years of experience as a Dental Assistant
- Have an active Maryland Radiology License
- Have a CPR Level III certification
- Have knowledge and experience using an electronic dental record system
