Job Overview
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced and highly motivated Assistant General Manager to lead the management of off‑island tertiary patient referrals, oversee contractual arrangements for care delivered within hospitals in the UK and manage the off-island patient travel and accommodation team.
This is a pivotal leadership role, ensuring that Islanders receive safe, timely, and cost‑effective specialist care while robust contractual, financial, and governance arrangements are maintained with NHS and private provider organisations.
Off‑Island Tertiary Referrals
- Provide operational and strategic oversight of off‑island tertiary referrals for patients requiring specialist care not available in Jersey
- Ensure referral pathways are efficient, clinically appropriate, patient‑centred, and compliant with agreed policies
- Work closely with clinical teams to manage capacity, demand, and prioritisation of referrals
- Monitor patient experience and outcomes, identifying opportunities for service improvement
Contract Management
- Lead on the day‑to‑day management of contracts with NHS, Private hospitals and specialist providers
- Ensure contracts deliver value for money, meet quality standards, and comply with governance and regulatory requirements
- Monitor performance, activity, quality indicators, and financial controls across providers
- Support contract negotiation, variation, and review in collaboration with senior colleagues
Leadership & Governance
- Provide strong managerial leadership across referral and contracts teams
- Provide strong line management support to the of-island patient travel and accommodation team
- Prepare reports, performance data, and briefings for senior management and governance forums
- Identify and manage risks related to patient flow, quality, finance, and contractual compliance
- Contribute to service redesign, business planning, and strategic development
- Lead the weekly funding approval panel
