Our Technology team has 6 different departments: Information Security, Service Delivery, Business Enabling Systems, eCommerce & Marketing Technology, Data and Stores, Services & Supply Chain.

 

Whether it’s online or in our stores, the work that the IT team does is instrumental in PetSmart’s success. We have a strategic and actionable plan underway and are looking for associates who are just as excited about it as we are.

About the Location

Collaborative Work Environment:
At PetSmart, teamwork and connection are core to how we thrive. This role is based at our Phoenix Home Office, with an expectation of working a minimum of four days in the office each week. In a standard work week, associates may work up to one remote “flex day” (with leader approval). Our hybrid approach is designed to foster strong collaboration while also supporting flexibility and individual success.

 

About the Job

Role Summary

The Director, Supply Chain Systems defines and leads the technology strategy, transformation, operational execution, and support enablement for PetSmart’s supply chain ecosystem, including distribution, transportation, and network flow.

This role is accountable for advancing supply chain capabilities from execution-focused systems to optimized, intelligent, and scalable operations that directly support business performance and operational efficiency.

This leader drives cross-domain alignment with Merchandising, Fulfillment, and Enterprise Systems, ensuring technology investments deliver measurable business outcomes across the supply chain.

The role also ensures operational support and service reliability across supply chain platforms, including oversight of L2 support operations, while balancing modernization initiatives with day-to-day operational execution.

The role leads multiple teams through Managers and support leaders, ensuring supply chain platforms are scalable, reliable, and aligned to evolving business and operational needs.

Key Responsibilities


Leadership & Organizational Accountability
- Lead and develop Managers and their teams across Supply Chain Systems
- Align with Technology and business leadership to define and prioritize strategic direction aligned to enterprise objectives
- Build a high-performing organization through coaching, mentoring, accountability, and leadership development
- Build strong cross-functional relationships across Supply Chain Operations and Technology
- Drive alignment across domains to support enterprise initiatives and business outcomes

Operational Alignment & Execution
- Ensure supply chain systems directly support day-to-day operations across distribution centers and transportation networks
- Ensure operational processes and systems meet required service levels and business expectations
- Partner with Supply Chain leadership to align technology capabilities with operational priorities
- Improve execution, throughput, reliability, and scalability across the supply chain network
- Translate operational challenges into technology, process, and capability improvements

Supply Chain Systems Ownership
- Lead and influence technology capabilities supporting warehouse operations, transportation management, distribution execution, automation, and fulfillment flow
- Ensure stability, scalability, and performance of core supply chain systems
- Own system performance supporting operational execution and business continuity

Operational Support & L2 Service Management
- Ensure operational support processes effectively support day-to-day supply chain operations and business priorities
- Lead and manage L2 support teams supporting warehouse operations, transportation systems, integrations, and automation platforms
- Establish accountability for incident management, escalation handling, SLA adherence, and operational support metrics
- Ensure support processes are scalable, reliable, and aligned to operational requirements
- Drive continuous improvement in support workflows, issue resolution, knowledge management, and operational support maturity
- Balance operational stability with transformation and modernization initiatives

Transformation & Modernization
- Lead major platform transformations from ideation through implementation
- Drive modernization initiatives supporting automation, throughput, operational scalability, and intelligent decisioning
- Partner with Supply Chain Engineering and Operations teams to identify future operational needs and enabling technologies
- Enable transition from legacy systems to next-generation platforms

Flow Optimization & Replenishment Integration
- Partner with Merchandising and Replenishment teams to support integrated inventory flow and operational execution
- Drive evolution toward intelligent network flow optimization
- Improve inventory movement, throughput, delivery performance, and operational efficiency

AI & Optimization Enablement
- Lead adoption of AI-driven and optimization capabilities across supply chain operations
- Partner with AI & Automation leadership to identify and implement high-value use cases
- Enable predictive and data-driven decision-making across the supply chain network
- Ensure AI and optimization initiatives align with enterprise strategy and operational goals

Operational Performance & Efficiency
- Improve distribution productivity, labor utilization, transportation efficiency, service levels, and operational cost performance
- Drive measurable improvements in operational execution and supply chain performance

Cross-Domain Collaboration
- Partner with Merchandising, Fulfillment, and Enterprise Systems teams
- Ensure alignment across upstream and downstream systems and business processes
- Support enterprise initiatives requiring cross-functional coordination and integrated execution

What Success Looks Like – 5 – 7 years of Distribution Expereneice

- Systems effectively enable scalable supply chain operations
- Operational support processes are stable, responsive, and aligned to business priorities
- Successful delivery and adoption of transformation initiatives
- Measurable improvements in throughput, efficiency, service levels, and operational cost
- Effective alignment between supply chain operations and technology
- High-performing teams consistently delivering business outcomes

Qualifications

- Experience leading technology teams supporting supply chain or operational environments
- Proven understanding of distribution, transportation, logistics, and operational workflows
- Experience driving large-scale transformation and modernization initiatives
- Proven ability to lead teams through Managers and support leaders
- Effective cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management skills

Preferred

- Experience with warehouse, transportation, automation, or operational systems
- Exposure to AI-driven optimization and intelligent operational capabilities
- Retail or supply chain industry experience
