The Accounting Manager & Internal Control Lead is an experienced finance professional responsible for managing day‑to‑day accounting operations, internal control activities, and statutory compliance for DSC legal entities in Japan, under the guidance of the Senior Manager.
This role supports finance operations and business decision‑making through accurate, complete, and timely financial management, reporting, and analysis in accordance with both IFRS and local GAAP.
The position serves as a key point of contact for shared service centers, external auditors, and internal stakeholders, ensuring smooth coordination and reliable financial reporting.
In addition, the role includes team management responsibilities, providing guidance, coaching, and day‑to‑day operational oversight to ensure effective execution of accounting and control activities.
Responsibilities
Accounting tasks:
- Perform and oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations to ensure accurate and complete financial records for Japan legal entities
- Prepare, review, post journal entries in line with IFRS and local GAAP
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and follow up on open or unusual items
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including system close activities and data submissions
- Prepare and review lease accounting entries in accordance with IFRS16
- Support finance system processes (e.g., Oracle Cloud), with a good understanding of payment, employee expense, and billing flows
- Support accounting activities of subsidiaries or related entities as required
Cash Flow management:
- Support cash flow forecasting and monitoring activities
- Assist treasury‑related activities by providing accounting data and analysis as needed
Tax management:
- Prepare data, schedules, and accounting records required for statutory and tax reporting
- Coordinate with external tax advisors and support tax filing processes
- Support tax audits and respond to information requests under guidance of the Senior Manager
Internal control:
- Act as the local lead for Internal Control (ICS) within Japan operations
- Ensure daily accounting and finance processes comply with global and regional control frameworks
- Prepare and maintain internal control documentation and evidence
- Coordinate and track remediation actions for control deficiencies
- Work closely with the Regional ICS team to embed governance requirements locally
- Support localization of controls and rules where required, aligning changes with the Regional ICS team
Audit coordination:
- Act as a key contact for internal and external auditors at the local level
- Prepare audit schedules, analysis, and supporting documentation
- Support audit walkthroughs, inquiries, and follow‑up actions
- Ensure timely implementation of agreed corrective actions
Requirements
- 5–10 years of experience in accounting or finance roles
- Strong hands‑on accounting background with solid practical experience
- Experience supporting month‑end and year‑end closing processes
- Practical experience in balance sheet reconciliation and financial data review
- Knowledge of internal control concepts
- Experience coordinating audits and preparing audit evidence and explanations
- Ability to work closely with shared service centers and regional teams
- Functional team leadership skills, including task coordination, coaching, and workflow management
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Good interpersonal skills with a collaborative, team‑oriented mindset
- Ability to communicate clearly and proactively with internal and external stakeholders
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel
- Good understanding of IFRS and/or JGAAP, USGAAP is also acceptable
- Business‑level Japanese and English communication skills (spoken and written)
