Position Title: EMT – Emergency Department
Department: Emergency Department
Reports To: CNO
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Starting Rate: EMT Basic positions start at $23.31 per hour. Compensation may be higher based on certification level, relevant experience, internal equity, and market factors.
Position Summary
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Emergency Department supports patient care and department operations within Bath Community Hospital’s Emergency Department. This role provides clinical, technical, and clerical support to ensure efficient patient flow and delivery of safe, patient-centered care. Responsibilities and clinical duties are performed in accordance with the employee’s current certification level (EMT-Basic, EMT-Advanced, or Paramedic), applicable state regulations, and Bath Community Hospital protocols.
Essential Functions
- Greet patients, obtain vital signs, and assist with patient intake and triage activities as assigned
- Document patient information accurately in the electronic health record
- Assist providers and nurses with clinical procedures within scope of practice
- Perform patient care tasks such as EKGs, splinting, wound care support, and specimen collection
- Observe and report changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse
- Maintain exam rooms, stretchers, and equipment, including cleaning and restocking
- Support patient flow and overall department operations
- Assist with clerical functions, including registration, documentation, and scanning
- Ensure compliance with infection control and safety standards
- May assist with EMS response or patient transport as needed based on competency
- Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent required
- Experience: Emergency Department, EMS, or patient care experience preferred
- Licensure/Certifications:
- Current Virginia EMT-Basic, Advanced, or Paramedic certification required
- EVOC certification required
- BLS certification required
- ACLS and PALS preferred
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Minimum age: 21
