Lead Park Concierge

If you like working outside and have an innate skill for customer service, Associated Recreation Council (ARC) has a role for you as a Lead Park Concierge working in Seattle's beautiful parks. ARC, in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation, serves Seattle by offering access to licensed childcare and a variety of recreational and lifelong learning programs, classes, and activities. The Lead Park Concierge provides friendly and knowledgeable information to the public and provides support during peak and non-peak-hour in various downtown Seattle Parks locations. The Lead Park Concierge is responsible for ensuring downtown parks are active, welcoming, and safe public spaces for all users. They may mentor other Park Concierge staff or provide supervisory duties in the absence of the Park Concierge Supervisor.

 

Expected Work Hours: 

 

The shift is either Sunday through Thursday or Thursday through Monday depending on your availability.

Regular shifts are 10am-6:30pm June through September. Plus doing many evening events.

10am-5:30pm in October. Plus doing some evening events.

10am-4:30pm November through March. Plus doing an event or two.

10am-5:30pm April and May. Plus doing an event or two.

 

Location: Downtown and surrounding Parks; including Ballard Commons, City Hall, Hing Hay Park, Denny Park and Pioneer Square Park

 

Lead Park Concierge Duties and Responsibilities Include:

Mentorship/Supervision

  • Mentors Park Concierge staff in their professional development.
  • Assist in onboarding Park Concierges
  • In the absence of the Park Concierge Supervisor, may be asked to perform some supervisory duties
  • Monitors overall activities of the concierges and the work assignments in the city parks
  • Do the morning texts and emails when the Supervisor is off, on vacation or on LOA.

 

Operations

  • Is part of the Park Concierge team that is activated in the parks.
  • Oversee and set-up of bistro tables and chairs, umbrellas, pop-up tents and activities
  • Manage Kiosk
  • Oversee and assist with program and event management
  • Pick-up litter and maintain park cleanliness
  • Report maintenance and equipment issues
  • Manage and set-up sound systems for performers, movies, and events
  • Provide support and ensure Buskers receive any equipment needed for performances
  • Ensure safety of Buskers and emergency procedures are followed
  • Coordinate with Park Rangers and Seattle Police Department (SPD) to report any illegal activity
  • Provide counts of how many people are using the park at different times throughout the day
  • Oversee set-up and breakdown of any events or activations, including staging, tents, signage, and audio/video
  • Track number of program and/or event attendees, on-site media, any sponsor and talent feedback, and take photos of events
  • Ensure event/program areas are clean and free of debris prior to scheduled event/activation and before departing the park
  • Locate and remove graffiti from tables, chairs, and other amenities. Track and report graffiti on buildings, sidewalks, and street fixtures and ensure it’s reported for removal
  • Perform set-up and breakdown duties such as sweeping/cleaning up, taking garbage to dumpster, etc.
  • Complete event activation duties such as manage Kiosk, set up sound systems, staging, tents, signate, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Customer Service

  • Interact with park patrons, conduct surveys as requested
  • Act as an information guide, answering questions about city destinations and events
  • Act as on-site parks public relations representative for the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department and neighborhood groups
  • De-escalate and redirect in situations when required with park patrons
  • Observe and report any issues that arise in the park to the correct agency
  • Provide first response and communication when medical issues arise
  • Communicate Park needs and damaged equipment to supervisor
  • Communicate with coworkers and supervisors to report issues, cleanups, and facility problems

Safety and Risk Management

  • Mentors the team as needed to answer questions regarding parks routine disruptions, emergencies, and catastrophic disasters
  • Uses excellent judgment and include the supervisor on sensitive issues
  • Adheres to all applicable federal, state and/or local laws and regulations, rules, standards, and compliance requirements
  • Clean and sanitize any bistro furniture and/or other equipment and supplies
  • Ensure that the Park Concierges are following the instruction of law enforcement and emergency personnel

Park Concierge Requirements Include:

  • High School diploma or equivalent education and experience
  • 2+ years of experience in event planning, ambassadorship, or related field desired
  • Previous event and or customer service experience strongly preferred
  • Previous experience working in parks or other outdoor venues preferred
  • Documentation of current Red Cross First-Aid/CPR certification preferred 
  • Experience working with diverse communities and unhoused populations preferred
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience leading groups or teams and providing guidance, mentoring, and coaching as needed

 

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older
  • Documentation of current Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification preferred
  • Must have access to reliable transportation

SUPERVISION

 

Will perform supervisory duties in partnership with Park Concierge Supervisor.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

  • Must be willing to work outside in various weather conditions.
  • Must be willing to work outside early morning, evenings, weekends, and holidays year-round 
  • Operate equipment safely and in accordance with training, wears appropriate personal protective equipment, and reports any unsafe work conditions or practices to supervisor
  • May be required to report to work to serve customers during emergency conditions
  • May be assigned to work at one or more parks

 Physical Demands:

  • Ability to continuously move and position self to successfully carry out assigned duties
  • Ability to remain in stationary position for extended periods of time
  • Ability to occasionally move or transport weight up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent moderate physically demanding activities in an outdoor setting required, including traversing 3-5 miles between locations

Pay Rate: $28.67/hour
