POSITION SUMMARY:
The CAD & SolidWorks Architect is responsible for designing, modeling, and developing detailed engineering drawings and fabrication packages to support oil and gas, frac, fabrication, and welding operations. This role works closely with engineering, operations, fabrication, and field personnel to ensure designs meet operational requirements, industry standards, and customer specifications. The CAD & SolidWorks Architect oversees drawing accuracy, revision control, and design optimization while supporting fabrication efficiency, safety compliance, and project execution.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD models, assemblies, layouts, and fabrication drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Design oilfield equipment, frac support systems, skid packages, piping systems, structural components, and custom fabrication projects.
  • Prepare accurate fabrication and welding drawings including bills of materials (BOMs), cut lists, spool drawings, and assembly instructions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, fabrication, welding, and operations teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and cost-effective.
  • Review project specifications, customer requirements, and field data to develop compliant engineering solutions.
  • Maintain revision control and document management for all drawings and engineering files.
  • Coordinate with project managers, field personnel, and vendors regarding design changes, material requirements, and fabrication schedules.
  • Support fabrication shops and field crews by resolving drawing discrepancies and providing technical assistance.
  • Conduct site measurements and field verification as needed to support project accuracy and installation requirements.
  • Assist with equipment layouts, piping routing, structural supports, and skid integration for oilfield operations.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable industry codes, safety standards, and company procedures.
  • Work closely with welding and fabrication teams to optimize workflows and improve production efficiency.
  • Perform design modifications and updates based on operational feedback, inspections, and customer requests.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation including specifications, calculations, equipment data sheets, and as-built drawings.
  • Assist with prototype development, equipment improvements, and custom-engineered solutions.
  • Utilize ERP systems, project management software, and Microsoft Office applications for tracking, reporting, and documentation.
  • Participate in project meetings and communicate project status updates effectively.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs, improve quality, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new drafting or engineering personnel as needed.
  • Adhere to all company policies, safety standards, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Education: Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or related field preferred.

Experience:  3-5 years of CAD drafting and SolidWorks design experience preferred, preferably within the oil and gas, frac, fabrication, or manufacturing industry.

Computer Skills: 

Advanced proficiency in:

  • SolidWorks
  • AutoCAD
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • ERP and document management systems preferred

Certificates & Licenses:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Completion of company and customer required safety training
  • SolidWorks Certification preferred

Other Requirements: Basic reading, writing, and math skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The CAD & SolidWorks Architect works primarily in a corporate office and fabrication shop environment, with periodic visits to field locations, customer sites, and fabrication facilities. This role requires close coordination with engineering, welding, fabrication, frac operations, and field personnel in a fast-paced operational setting. Work hours are generally standard business hours; however, additional hours, overtime, and occasional on-call support may be required to meet project deadlines and operational demands. The position requires adaptability, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining compliance with all company safety policies and industry standards.
