
Vehicle Technician ($35.88 + $1.25 shift differential)
Job Description
The Vehicle Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational readiness of specialized vehicle platforms. This role focuses on the execution of containments for non-conforming components, the performance of complex system repairs, and the coordination of Swim Pond and test track operations. The successful candidate will ensure all vehicles meet stringent contractual and safety requirements through disciplined cyclic maintenance and rigorous testing. This position requires a versatile technician capable of working across multiple platforms in dynamic outdoor and indoor environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Testing & Validation: Execute containments on suspect or non-conforming vehicle components. Participate in and support Swim Pond testing to validate vehicle buoyancy and operational safety per contractual requirements.
- Maintenance & Repair: Perform comprehensive cyclic maintenance, including oil changes, transmission services, and hydraulic fluid replacements. Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system failures.
- System Troubleshooting: Identify and rectify faults in vehicle systems, performing necessary repairs, adjustments, and the installation of shortages to ensure full functional compliance with technical specifications.
- Operational Compliance: Maintain all required test track and vehicle certifications, including a valid driver’s certification, ensuring 100% compliance with BAE policies and customer mandates.
- Component Overhaul: Conduct detailed testing of components to ensure they meet contractual standards; perform the breakdown and rebuild of subcomponents as required by the program.
- Adaptability: Execute technical tasks in various weather conditions and adapt quickly to evolving program requirements and customer needs across multiple vehicle platforms.
Tooling & Equipment Proficiency:
- Precision Measurement: Expert use of sighting and measuring instruments, including quadrants, targets, micrometers, dial indicators, height gauges, and torque wrenches.
- Diagnostics: Proficiency with hydraulic and electrical test equipment, including digital meters, gauges, and specialized test stands.
- Fabrication & Repair: Skilled in the use of hand and power tools, including drills, oxy-acetylene, and other gas torches.
- Material Handling: Certified or experienced in operating jib cranes, overhead pendulum cranes, and mobile/hand trucks.
- Systems & Data: Proficient in using computers, bar-code scanners, and other data acquisition devices for tracking and reporting.
Experience & Skills:
- Proven experience in vehicle maintenance and repair (Mechanical, Electrical, and Hydraulic).
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and contractual specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot failures in a high-pressure testing environment.
- Physical ability to work in diverse weather conditions and perform labor-intensive tasks.
Pay Information
This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which will determine your wages.
