Job Description 

POSITION: General Maintenance 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Maintenance 

EMPLOYMENT TERM:  261 days annually, pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8; extended employment terms may be established by MCBOE 

SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8a, in accordance with Mason County Salary 

Scale, Pay Grade C commensurate with experience and education level 

EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the building 

principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314

JOB SUMMARY: "General maintenance" means personnel employed as helpers to skilled maintenance employees and to perform minor repairs to equipment and buildings of a county school system. WV §18A-4-8 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.

  • Clears brush, cuts grass, digs ditches, and performs other minor grounds maintenance duties
  • Responsible for shoveling snow.
  • Loads and unloads trucksmoves or hauls such items as supplies, office furniture, and building materials
  • Arrange furniture, chairs, tables, and providing preparations/adequate support for special events.
  • Assists in building repair, working with a plumber, electriciancarpenter, etc.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks of heating and cooling systems, such as changing filters and checking seals and ducwork
  • Assist in the coordination of the building maintenance program
  • Assemble furniture and equipment for the purpose of providing items in working conditions
  • Inspects facilities, systems, and their components for the purpose of identifying necessary repairs
  • Installs various items (such as whiteboards, serving lines, railings, fences, etc.) for the purpose of completing projects safely and within established timeframes
  • Maintains tools and/ or equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability of equipment in safe operating condition
  • Complete daily work orders in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns
  • Performs related word as required
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Maintenance 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

High School diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18A-2-5; Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c; Meet the definition of "Qualifications" in WV Code §18A-4-8b; demonstrated competency, pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8e (state-approved competency test) as required. Valid driver's license required.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud, due to the use of power tools.

SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8a, in accordance with Mason County Salary 

Scale, Pay Grade B commensurate with experience and education level 

EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the building 

principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314

JOB SUMMARY: "Groundsman" means personnel employed to perform duties that relate to the appearance, repair and general care of school grounds in a county school system. Additional assignments may include the operation of a small heating plant and routine cleaning duties. WV §18A-4-8

POSITION: Plumber I and II 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Maintenance

SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8a, in accordance with Mason County Salary Scale, Pay Grade E for Plumber I and Pay Grade G for Plumber II commensurate with experience and education level 

EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the building immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314

JOB SUMMARY: The plumber helps to maintain all aspects of the plumbing systems in the county's physical facilities in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times while ensuring compliance with State and County building codes. 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Clean blocked drains.
  • Repair leaks and sewer lines.
  • Replace service lines.
  • Trouble shoot boilers by checking for steam pressures, services, and replaces boilers.
  • Check for improper combustion.
  • Install back-flow prevention devices.
  • Investigate sewer gas odors.
  • Install fixtures and appliances.
  • Establish project budgets and disposes of worksite debris.
  • Coordinate project schedules and selects appropriate tools for jobs.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety principles and practices, first aid, and CPR.
  • Install, maintain, and repair different types of pipe systems including high and low-pressure pipe systems.
  • Install automatic controls to regulate systems.
  • Cut holes in walls, ceilings, and floors for pipe replacement.
  • Use saws, pipe cutters, and pipe bending machines to cut and bend lengths of pipe.
  • Connect lengths of pipe with adhesives and soldering.
  • Use pressure gauges to check systems for proper plumbing.
  • Install hangers and supports.
  • Construct water distribution lines and drains.
  • Install, clean out, and vent traps.
