Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for an Academic Operations Team Leader to join the School of Nursing at Waipapa Taumata Rau | The University of Auckland. This role provides leadership and oversight of general administrative services within the School, supporting the Academic Head, academic staff and students to enable high-quality teaching, learning and research outcomes.
Working closely with the Academic Operations Manager, you will lead and support a team delivering day‑to‑day operational services across the School of Nursing, while also contributing hands‑on expertise and acting as a point of escalation for more complex matters.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the delivery of general administration services, ensuring consistent, high-quality support for academic staff and students
- Partnering closely with the Academic Head to meet operational and strategic priorities
- Managing, coaching and developing Group Services staff supporting the School
- Overseeing recruitment and appointment processes for academic and professional staff within the school
- Providing administrative leadership across teaching, learning and research activities
- Acting as a portfolio specialist in one or more technical areas (e.g. recruitment, finance administration, curriculum management)
- Championing continuous improvement and service standards across the school
This is a fulltime, permanent position.
The salary range for this role is $73,400 - $90,700 based on skills and experience.

You are a confident and collaborative people leader with a strong background in complex administrative environments. You enjoy working in partnership with academic leaders and take pride in delivering high‑quality operational support that enables others to succeed.
You bring sound judgement, strong relationship‑building skills and the ability to balance strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery. Experience in a tertiary or similarly complex organisation will be highly regarded
You will bring:
- Experience in senior or advanced administrative roles
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach and support staff in a service‑focused environment
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work across multiple functions
- High proficiency with administrative systems, including HR and financial systems
- Strong data literacy, with the ability to interpret information and support informed decision‑making
- Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to influence and manage competing priorities
