Job Description
Job Title: Transition Specialist Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Primary Purpose:
Serve as district Transition Specialist. Provide assistance to district students during transition between district schools and DAEP campus placements (PIA, JJAEP, LCJJC). Serve as district liaison to parents and district alternative schools.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree, Texas teacher certificate, 3 years teaching experience
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of state compulsory attendance laws
Ability to interpret laws, policies, and procedures
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to operate personal computer (develop databases and do word processing)
Ability to travel district wide to conduct home visits and visit sites where truant students has been reported to the district
Experience:
Two years working in compliance, law enforcement, or with children and adults in a leadership role
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Transition Implementation
- Investigate cases of unexcused and excessive DAEP absences and tardiness and truancy (failure to enroll or re-enroll in DAEP or district school).
- Assist students during transition to and from district DAEP campuses.
- Interpret and communicate compulsory attendance laws and school policy to parents and students.
- Investigate cases of suspected alternative school drop-out; retrieve textbooks and school property.
- Confer regularly with teachers, counselors, principals, and other staff to identify problems of tardiness, attendance, and student truancy.
- Confer with students in matters of attendance and tardiness and make a reasonable effort to gain their cooperation to improve attendance.
- Implement and comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area of student attendance.
Administrative
- Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Maintain confidentiality.
General Employee Responsibilities:

- Follow and support board policies in areas of related responsibility.
- Ensure district resources are managed effectively to maximize resources for student learning.
- Share in the development and implementation of district success plans.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent districtwide travel. Occasional walking, running, and climbing.
