Assistant/Associate/Professor of Practice (Pathology Supervisor)

Job Description

Provide necropsy and biopsy diagnostic pathology services across all species (excluding nonhuman primates). Coordinate case management, including records oversight, client communication, and facilitation of ancillary testing with internal and external laboratories. Maintain competency in cytologic evaluation to support diagnostics. Represent the laboratory at meetings, conferences, and stakeholder engagements, and support outreach to regulatory agencies, industry partners, and the veterinary community. Lead and contribute to research initiatives that enhance diagnostic capabilities and surveillance efforts. Oversee a small team of technicians, fostering cross-training, workflow coordination, mentoring, and professional development. Promote a collaborative, positive laboratory culture and ensure team adherence to laboratory safety, biosafety, quality assurance, and regulatory standards. Coordinate staffing, training, and cross-training to maintain flexibility and operational readiness. Maintain and enhance quality management systems, including SOP review, internal audits, proficiency testing, and documentation. Ensure compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and biosafety standards, and oversee processes to support reproducibility, accuracy, and consistency across testing platforms. Lead assay development, optimization, validation, and implementation to expand diagnostic capabilities, and introduce improvements in methodologies, workflows, instrumentation, and overall laboratory efficiency and rigor. Coordinate core and elective diagnostic pathology rotation courses for clinical year veterinary students, including development and maintenance of instructional materials, facilitation of guided learning activities, grading, and assessment of student performance including timely formative and summative feedback. Lead applied case discussions, coordinate cross-sectional learning activities with other laboratory units, and provide student mentorship. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Broad knowledge of veterinary anatomic pathology, including necropsy and surgical biopsy diagnostics across multiple species. Competency in diagnostic cytology evaluation is also desirable. Ability to lead and mentor a small laboratory team, with strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
