Description
The Student Union, Inc. is 501(c)(3) nonprofit auxiliary that maintains three major facilities at San Jose State University in downtown San Jose, California. These facilities include the Diaz Compean Student Union Building, the Provident Credit Union Event Center, and the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center. The Student Union, Inc. functions as part of the Student Affairs Division on campus, and is governed by a Board of Directors made up of a student majority, faculty, and administrators.
Mission
Essential Functions and Tasks
- Assist in the planning, organization, and execution of marketing, including attending events and recording videos, taking pictures, interacting with various audiences, and maximizing engagement through social media platform.
- Participate in marketing and outreach efforts, such as orientations, resource fairs, and outreach programs.
- Assist with conceptualizing, composing, design, and delivering digital marketing media.
- Assist in writing, editing, and development of website content and social media posts.
- Assist with conceptualizing, composing, designing, and delivering digital marketing media.
- Retrieve and document user feedback for website improvement and enhancements.
- Interact with full-time staff to aid in marketing material.
- Perform tracking, data collection and analysis to support the successful execution and evaluation of Student Union digital platforms including corporation websites, Instagram, twitter, Facebook, slack, YouTube, and other social media campaigns and programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be able to show a portfolio with examples of knowledge skills in application; this can include copywriting, design, web, campaigns, analytic reports, content calendars, photography, and/or other related items.
- Must have academic and practical knowledge; and/or experience in social media, graphic design, photography, layout, and production for print, digital media, and web design.
- Must be trained on CSU Information Security and V-Pat compliance for all social media and media production within the first month of employment.
- Must be a matriculated SJSU student and continuously enrolled at least half-time* during the academic term.
- *Half-time is defined as follows: Enrollment Status Half-time Units Undergraduate and Post baccalaureate Students 6.0-8.0 hours/semester
- Current enrollment in the Business Administration, Marketing Concentration; English,
- Professional and Technical Writing; or Communication Studies or other relevant programs are preferred.
- Knowledge of Squarespace website platform. Knowledge of OUCampus.
- Computer skills - proficient knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and Macintosh Operating System 10.4 (OS X) or higher. Familiarity with Flash a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
- Must be organized and detail-oriented.
- Ability to set and meet deadlines.
- Ability to construct and design displays for presentations and distribution.
- Ability to collaborate with other departments on multiple projects while staying focused and on task.

- Fall (Slip, Trip) Conditions that result in falls (impacts) from height or traditional walking and playing surfaces.
- Lifting and carrying, often 10-25lbs, frequently 26-50lbs, occasionally 50-75 lbs.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
- Dexterity of hands, fingers, and wrists to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.

- In general, the position works a schedule based on business needs 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday, and may require evening and weekend work as needed.
- When school is in session - may work up to, but not in excess of 20 hours per week (among all concurrent positions).
- When classes are not in session (i.e. summer break) may work up to, but not in excess of 40 hours per week.
- This position is non-exempt from the provisions of Section 1 of the California Industrial Welfare Commission Orders.

This position is employed through the Student Union at San Jose State University which offers employees to receive 40 hours of sick pay during the calendar year.

Within the first month, all employees are required to complete the following compliance online training session through CSU Learn, the University’s employee training platform.
