
Pool Technician Helper/Custodian
Job Description
Education:
- Required: High School graduate or equivalent.
- Certification: Required: Must possess a valid class "C" Texas driver's license and be insurable by the district.
- Must be able to acquire the Aquatic Facility Operator's (AFO) certification within 90 days of hire.
Technology Proficiency:
- Required: none
Experience:
- Required: one (1) years' experience in plant operation and Maintenance, cleaning methods and procedures, repairs, security, heating, and ventilation. Pool operation and knowledge desired.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrates supervisory ability and supervises chemical use.
- Demonstrates a willingness to work overtime if necessary to ensure that extra-curricular and school rental requirements are satisfied and when emergency situations arise.
- Ability to communicate with the supervisor and school staff so the necessary support requirements for educational programs may be provided.
- Ability to communicate with persons at all levels in the school community.
- Ability to train pool helper and other custodial staff.
Function
Under the daily supervision of the natatorium manager and the certified pool operator and custodial operations of the Office of Facilities & Operations, assisting in general operation of the natatorium plant, ensuring that standards of cleanliness, sanitation, safety and security are met.
Reports To:
Reports directly to the natatorium manager and Custodial Foreman during the school year for the uninterrupted and comfortable operation of the natatorium plant and maintenance. (During non-school time, the reporting relationship is subject to change.)
Responsibilities:
- Maintains the cleanliness of the building and grounds in all respects.
- Assists in maintaining preventive maintenance logs �and other records as required.
- Ensures the proper instructional environment, including temperature, ventilation and building safety.
- Assists in providing maintenance activities with the natatorium manager and certified pool operator for curricula or extra� curricular activities and during normal duty hours, makes the natatorium and its facilities available as they supervisor directs.
- Have knowledge of piping and water flow systems re1ated to the facility. ,
- Cooperates with staff and students to harmoniously, achieve the purposes of the natatorium.
- Advises the supervisor at all times of repair and maintenance action required.
- Assists in carrying out preventive maintenance as directed.
- Assists in maintaining water clarity and purification systems.
- Assists in maintaining water filtration systems.
- Able to adjust work schedule for availability during special events such as swim meets. 1
- Assist in the efficient and proper use of care taking supplies and maintaining a system of stock control of all supplies.
- Inspects building daily to ensure standards have been met.
- Cleans and maintains restroom facilities.
- Meets with the supervisor to review daily programs requiring custodial support.
- Must be able to operate a district vehicle in the performance of duties.
- Assists in the operating of the heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and dehumidification systems and maintains the plumbing and lighting systems.
- Provides for physical requirements for special functions such as swim meets, rentals and other related activities.
- Performs other job-related •duties as required for \he daily operation of the natatorium

- Lifting (heavy, 45 pounds or over), carrying (heavy, 45 pounds or over), stooping, walking, climbing (stairs, ladders, scaffold, ramps), balancing, crouching, kneeling, pulling, crawling, working in confined areas, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, visual acuity, driving (car, truck, bus).
- Outside temperature extremes, noises, vibrating, slippery surfaces, sunlight, works around moving objects, kneeling, chemical exposure (asbestos, fumes, vapors, gases, dusts, smoke, etc.), inside, humidity extremes, low or intense illumination, microwaves, uneven surfaces, works with hands in water, works around machinery with moving parts, works alone, prolonged or irregular hours, biological exposure (insects, mold, fungi, bacteria, animals, plants, etc.).
