Job Description

Education/Certification

  • Preferred: High School graduate or equivalent

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Required: Good communicating and reasoning skills.
  • Preferred: Possess a Texas operator's or class C driver's license and be insurable by the District.

 

Experience:

  • Required: Two (2) years experience in cleaning methods and procedures, maintenance repairs, security and plant operation.

 

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Demonstrate supervisory ability.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work overtime if necessary to ensure that extra-curricular and school rental requirements are satisfied and in the event emergency situations arise.
  • Demonstrate willingness to work flexible hours when needed.
  • Ability to communicate w h the Principal and school staff so the necessary support requirements for educational programs may be provided.
  • Ability to communicate with persons at all levels in the school community.
  • Ability to communicate, delegate and work with co-workers in a cooperative manner.
  • Ability and willingness to work any shift.

 

Function

The evening Head Custodian provides supervision of custodians, performs cleaning assignments and is responsible for custodial and maintenance operations, ensuring that standards of cleanliness, sanitation, safety, security and other desirable environmental conditions are met in order to support the education mission of the District.

 

Reports To:

Report directly to the Custodial Area Supervisor

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conform to all Board Policies and Procedures, Administrative directives, and Departmental Rules and Regulations.
  • Ensure all Board Policies and Procedures, Administrative Directives and Departmental Rules and Regulations are adhered to by all custodial staff.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the building and grounds in all respects.
  • Work in cooperation with the Day Lead Custodian to assist the Custodial Area Supervisor in communication with Campus Coordinator regarding custodial maintenance activities so not to interfere with any curricular or extra-curricular activities during schedule duty hours. Make the school and its facilities available as instructed.
  • Cooperate with staff and students to harmoniously achieve the purposes of the school.
  • Operate the heating, ventilation and air condition systems.
  • Performs minor maintenance.
  • Advises the Principal, Day Lead Custodian and Area Supervisor at all times of repair, maintenance and building safety issues.
  • Direct assigned custodial staff in the performance of duties.
  • Provide supplementary on the job training required to prepare facilities for a clean and safe teaming environment.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance as directed
  • Work in cooperation with the Day Lead Custodian to assist the Custodial Area Supervisor in implementing custodial work schedules.
  • Work in cooperation with the Day Lead Custodian to assist the Custodial Area Supervisor in updating the facilities activity calendar.
  • Arrange for physical requirements for school rental, dances and other activities. Work in cooperation with the Day Lead Custodian in the supervision of efficient and proper use of supplies, maintaining the system of stock control.
  • Work in cooperation with the Day Lead Custodian and the Custodial Area Supervisor in maintaining preventive maintenance logs and other records as required.
  • Daily spot check building to ensure quality standards have been met. (10%-25% of work day)
  • Report incomplete work to Custodial Area Supervisor as instructed.
  • Meet with the Day Lead Custodian, Principal and/or Campus Coordinator as needed to review daily programs requiring custodial support. Report information to the Area Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Direct substitute orientation.
  • Communicate with the Day Lead Custodian and the day shift custodian any and all information necessary.
  • Communicate with Custodial Area Supervisor any and all information from custodians, teachers, Principal and other staff.
  • Perform custodial duties as outlined in work schedule.(75%-90% of work day)
  • Ability to work evening shift.
  • Perform other duties as required for the daily operation of the school.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Lifting (heavy, 45 lbs. or over), carrying (heavy, 45 lbs, or over), stooping, walking, climbing (stairs, ladders, scaffold, ramps), balancing, crouching, kneeling, pulling, crawling, working in confined areas, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, visual acuity, driving (car, truck, bus).
  • Outside temperature extremes. noises, vibrating, slippery surfaces, sunlight. works around moving objects, kneeling, chemical exposure (asbestos, fumes, vapors, gases, dusts, smoke, etc.). Inside humidity extremes, low or intense illumination, microwaves, uneven surfaces, works with hands in water, works around machinery with moving parts, works alone, prolonged or irregular hours, biological exposure (insects, mold, fungi, bacteria, animals, plants, etc.)
