ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL - Middle School
Glenn Westlake Middle School, Lombard, IL

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master's degree, or higher, with a major in educational administration or curriculum and
instruction.
2. Professional Educator License with General Administrator or Principal endorsement.

- Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience

REPORTS TO:
Middle School Principal.
SUPERVISES:
In cooperation with the principal, all personnel serving in assigned school, including resource and special service personnel while functioning in assigned school.
JOB GOAL:
To assist the principal as the educational leader in the building, with primary responsibility for improvement of instruction. To accomplish this goal, a majority of time shall be devoted to curriculum activities, staff development and establishing clear lines of communication with parents and teachers regarding school goals, accomplishments, practices and policies.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serves as administrative liaison for identified teams:
a. Attends meetings as appropriate.
b. Leads SST meetings/MDCs.
c. Monitors attendance.
d. Assists with instructional supervision and observation reports.
e. Handles discipline referrals and assists in student behavior.
2. Reviews/edits/revises/publishes students' handbook yearly.
3. Assists in supervision of extracurricular activities and school events outside of
regular work day.
4. Orients new transfer students.
5. Supervises school operations in principal's absence.
6. Coordinates student transportation (busing) and supervises student behavior on
buses.
7. Coordinates building rental/facility use.
8. Coordinates substitutes.
9. Assists the principal with curriculum responsibilities as assigned.
10. Helps to establish and maintain an effective educational and learning climate by
carrying out and communicating the educational goals of the school district and the
individual school.
11. Administers board policies and administrative regulations.
12. Assists in recruiting quality personnel.
13. Assists the principal in the evaluation of certified and non certified staff
14. Participates in the study and review of courses of study, curriculum guides and
major changes in texts and time schedules in the school.
15. Participates in the study and review of needed special programs and services.
16. Helps maintain a system of employee accounting, including time sheets, attendance
records, etc.
17. Helps maintain a student accounting program, including attendance data, discipline
data and academic performance data.
18. Assists with construction of the building's master schedule.
19. Attends meetings of the Leadership Team when requested, and board meetings
when requested.
20. Attends school functions.
21. Attends staffings for students involved in special programs and services.
22. Serves as the IEP manager for students involved in special programs and services.
23. Assists teachers in getting appropriate special services for students.
24. Supervises the coordination of assessment instruments including ISAT.
25. Helps to promote staff morale.
26. Provides for own professional growth.
27. Accomplishes district level tasks, as assigned.
28. Assists with other tasks as assigned by the principal.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. This position has a 11 month work year, 210 day contract. (Inclusive of 12 paid holidays)
2. Salary and conditions are established by the board of education. The salary range for this position is $80,000-$95,000
EVALUATION:
Performance is evaluated annually by the middle school principal.
