Cosmetology Teacher

Position: CTE Cosmetology Teacher

Location: Melvindale High School

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Deliver instruction in: 
   1. Hair cutting, coloring, and styling 
   2. Chemical services, skincare, and nail care 
   3. Sanitation, safety, and infection control 
2. Prepare students for the Michigan State Board of Cosmetology exam 
3. Supervise students in a salon/lab setting and maintain a safe, compliant environment 
4. Track student competencies and required training hours 
5. Build partnerships with local salons and coordinate work-based learning opportunities 
6. Support student career readiness and job placement 
7. Ensure compliance with all LARA and CTE (OCTE) requirements 
8. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at times designated
9. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of all students based on the District's educational philosophy, goals, objectives and individual student plan.
10. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
11. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation.
12. Establish and maintain standards of appropriate student behavior.
13. Employ a variety of instructional strategies and media which meet the needs and capabilities of the students.
14. Evaluate student performance on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
15. Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
16. Maintain and improve competence through participation in professional training
17. Attend all staff meetings and serve on committees as requested.
18. Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by the Superintendent or designee.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

1. Valid Michigan Cosmetologist License 
2. Valid Michigan Cosmetology Instructor License 
3. Minimum 3 years of recent cosmetology experience 
4. One of the following: 
   1. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate, CIP Code 12.0400 CTE endorsement, OR 
   2. Eligibility for Annual Career Authorization (ACA) CIP Code 12.0400
5. Minimum 4,000 hours of relevant industry experience 
6. Willingness to complete required CTE training toward Michigan teaching certificate or such other credentials as may be required by the Melvindale-Northern Allen Park Public School District for this position

Working Schedule and Rate of Pay:

40 week per year position (teacher work calendar)

Salary according to master contract
