Cosmetology Teacher
Job Description
Position: CTE Cosmetology Teacher
Location: Melvindale High School
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Deliver instruction in:
- Hair cutting, coloring, and styling
- Chemical services, skincare, and nail care
- Sanitation, safety, and infection control
- Prepare students for the Michigan State Board of Cosmetology exam
- Supervise students in a salon/lab setting and maintain a safe, compliant environment
- Track student competencies and required training hours
- Build partnerships with local salons and coordinate work-based learning opportunities
- Support student career readiness and job placement
- Ensure compliance with all LARA and CTE (OCTE) requirements
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at times designated
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of all students based on the District's educational philosophy, goals, objectives and individual student plan.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
- Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation.
- Establish and maintain standards of appropriate student behavior.
- Employ a variety of instructional strategies and media which meet the needs and capabilities of the students.
- Evaluate student performance on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
- Maintain and improve competence through participation in professional training
- Attend all staff meetings and serve on committees as requested.
- Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by the Superintendent or designee.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Valid Michigan Cosmetologist License
- Valid Michigan Cosmetology Instructor License
- Minimum 3 years of recent cosmetology experience
- One of the following:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate, CIP Code 12.0400 CTE endorsement, OR
- Eligibility for Annual Career Authorization (ACA) CIP Code 12.0400
- Minimum 4,000 hours of relevant industry experience
- Willingness to complete required CTE training toward Michigan teaching certificate or such other credentials as may be required by the Melvindale-Northern Allen Park Public School District for this position
Working Schedule and Rate of Pay:
40 week per year position (teacher work calendar)
Salary according to master contract
