SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for ensuring highly satisfying customer experience, developing and grow business relationships with new and existing customers which align with the TOTE Services’ strategic business plan.

The Commercial Manager will work across all lines of business to identify and nurture existing clientele, new opportunities, develop the goals of the project, negotiate contracts, and facilitate and support the development of new business start-ups in a technical role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Account Manager

  • Act as the primary point of contact between the customer and TOTE Services.
  • Promote a culture of service for the customer, ensure timely and accurate communication and processing of deliverables per terms of contracts and service agreement. Coordinates with internal departments to ensure obligations are met.
  • Coordinates day-to-day activities between office and customer/vessels. Notifies and/or distributes pertinent information to all employees involved.
  • Ensures safety culture of the company by leading through example. Participates and attends safety meetings and audits, support the customer in complying with ISM code. 
  • Manages and participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities within the department.
  • Develop budgets to support the customer and monitors for actual expense variances.
  • Evaluates performance and operation of officers and crew, supports the development of succession plans.
  • Visits the customer / vessel visits throughout the year, operations permitting.
  • Develop relationships with prospective clients, while expanding the role of Tote Services with existing clients
  • Deliver service offering. Support new business start-up in a technical role.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensures crews of vessels under their responsibility follow the company and customer policies and procedures. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, Safety Management Systems program, customer requirements, and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; evaluating performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in marine transportation, marine engineering, nautical science or associated field. Preferred documented sailing experience or shoreside experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Working knowledge of vessel systems, maintenance and repair, Safety Management Systems and the ISM Code.
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret and apply analytical data, including statistical analysis.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of technical manuals and drawings, shipboard arrangement and organization, functioning of machinery, repair techniques, costs and report preparation, and various software programs, both shoreside and shipboard.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to solve problems effectively in dynamic and diverse situations involving both internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be team-oriented and possess the ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to collaborate on cross-functional teams to implement organizational goals, project management, contractual bidding, and innovative projects.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Proficient in Windows and MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams).
  • Proficient in Nautical Systems Enterprise (NSE)
  • Ability to understand and apply cloud computing, AI, & machine learning is preferred.
