The Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program in Physics offers undergraduate students the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research alongside leading faculty across a broad range of physics disciplines.

While the primary focus is on individual research, the program also includes a range of professional development and enrichment activities, such as workshops on ethics in STEM, graduate school preparation, hands-on training in electronics and machining, lab tours, and a weekly seminar series.
  • The job will entail carrying out research tasks in the context of a physics research lab or group. Tasks may include, but are not limited to the use of scientific-grade laser systems, spectral analyzers, high vacuum systems, precision electronics, and physics simulation tools. Work will be carried out in the context of a larger research program, contributing novel results that contribute meaningfully to the programmatic goals of the respective research group. On-the-job training will be provided.
  • The hiring rate for this position is $17.21 per hour, 32 hours per week.
  • The total amount available per Temporary Researcher hire is $5,500.
Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave.

  • Applicants must have completed at least 1 year of college. Applications will be assessed based upon the applicant’s performance in completed academic coursework, and especially coursework in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM), strength of recommendation letter, expressed scientific interests, and the applicant's background, experience, accomplishments, and interests as they relate to the research programs to the Physics/JILA research areas.
