Job Title: Student Wellness & Crisis Intervention Specialist Wage/Hour: Exempt
Reports to: Executive Director of Counseling Services Pay Grade: AP 4 205 days

Primary Purpose:
The Student Wellness & Crisis Intervention Specialist provides comprehensive mental health, crisis response, prevention, and substance use intervention services to support student well-being and academic success. This district-level position serves as a resource for students, families, and staff across multiple campuses in crisis-related situations that interfere with learning and safety, integrating counseling, prevention programming, behavioral threat assessment support, and coordinated intervention aligned with district and state requirements.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related mental health or behavioral health field preferred
- Required licensure: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC/LPC-A), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC). School counseling experience is preferred but not required.
- Must obtain and maintain all required licensure, certifications, and continuing education hours
- Bilingual preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Working knowledge of crisis intervention, threat assessment, suicide prevention, trauma-informed practices, and substance use prevention and intervention
- Knowledge of school-based prevention frameworks and student assistance practices
- Ability to collaborate effectively with administrators, counselors, teachers, families, and community agencies
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written/oral communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with legal, ethical, and district requirements
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing counseling or intervention services to children, adolescents, or families
- Experience with crisis intervention, substance use counseling, prevention programming, or at-risk student populations preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Student Counseling, Crisis Response, and Intervention:
- Provide individual, group, family, and crisis counseling services to students at assigned campuses
- Respond to and support crisis situations, including suicide risk, threat assessment, substance use incidents, and other safety-related concerns
- Serve as a member of the District Crisis Response Team and provide on-demand crisis support across campuses
- Participate in behavioral threat assessment processes in accordance with district and state guidelines
- Conduct assessments related to mental health and substance use to determine appropriate interventions, supports, or referrals
- Provide counseling and follow-up support for students returning from treatment programs, alternative school placements, or JJAEP
- Support high-risk students through Graduation Teams, Student Assistance Teams, and other campus-based intervention structures
Prevention, Training, and Outreach:
- Coordinate and deliver prevention curricula and programming related to mental health, wellness, and substance use
- Facilitate training for students, staff, parents, and community partners on mental health awareness, crisis response, and prevention strategies
- Provide parent education and consultation regarding student mental health and substance use concerns
Collaboration and Case Management:
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with students, families, campus staff, district departments, and community agencies
- Coordinate referrals to community mental health providers and support services and monitor follow-through
- Collaborate with district social workers, counselors, and family centers to ensure consistent intervention and case management practices
Program Management and Administration:
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including session notes, case files, reports, and required releases and permissions
- Participate in counselor meetings, professional development, and assigned district committees
- Coordinate with district programs, projects, and initiatives as assigned by the Executive Director or Coordinator
- Utilize a flexible schedule as needed, including occasional evening hours to meet student and family needs

Mental Demands: Maintain composure and sound judgment under stress; respond effectively in crisis situations; adapt to frequent interruptions and shifting priorities; communicate clearly and professionally with diverse stakeholders; interpret and apply policies and procedures accurately; work independently across multiple campuses; and fulfill occasional extended or irregular hours, including the facilitation of district events and family engagement activities.
Physical Demands: Prolonged sitting or standing; frequent walking; bending, stooping, kneeling, and light lifting and carrying (up to 10�15 pounds); occasional physical restraint of students when necessary to control behavior
Environment: Work primarily indoors; occasional outdoor work; regular exposure to noise; district-wide travel as needed
Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional and office equipment
Other: Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures; Other duties as assigned.
