Job Description

Salary: $70,000 Minimum

Daily Hours: 8.5 (7.5 Paid)

Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in Food Service Administration, Food Service Management, or a closely related field, plus three (3) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience involving food administration, nutrition, dietetics, or food preparation, one (1) year of which must have involved managing a cafeteria or
food service establishment; OR,
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Food Service Administration, Food Service Management, or a closely related field, plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience of a cafeteria or food service establishment; OR,
(C) Five (5) years of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience involving food administration, nutrition, dietetics, or food preparation, one (1) year of which must have involved managing a cafeteria or food service establishment; OR,
(D) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
Desired Qualifications:
College level knowledge of food preparation and services typically acquired through the attainment of an Associate's Degree in Food Service Administration;
Working knowledge in preparation and service of institutional food
Working knowledge in the operation of a personal computer and related software;
Working level knowledge of K-12 public school food service operation;
Three years performing supervisory duties in food service operations in an institutional or chain restaurant environment;
Attention to detail;
Ability to deal with people at all organizational levels;
Good administrative, analytical, mathematical, organizational, planning, problem-solving and oral and written communication skills;
An aptitude for directing and motivating people.
Position Summary/Responsibilities:
Basic Function: The Assistant Director, Food Service assists in planning, organizing, directing and controlling food services throughout the Greece Central School District, including regularly scheduled student breakfast, lunch, after school snack as well as catering and special events.
Essential Duties: Within the limits of District policies, procedures, programs and budgets, is responsible for, and has commensurate authority to accomplish the duties set forth below:
Assists in developing objectives for the District's food service operations in accordance with overall District directives; assists in designing strategies to reach desired goals expressed in terms of comprehensive short- and long-range objectives;
Assists in organizing and directing assigned functions to achieve stated objectives; periodically assists in reviewing these functions in terms of their effectiveness, and makes recommendations as appropriate;
Assists in developing and implementing District-wide food service policies, practices and procedures;
Assists in providing direction for food service operations throughout the Greece Central School District, focusing on the timely and nutritious serving of student breakfast and lunch throughout all primary and secondary schools;
Analyzes and monitors the National School Lunch Program within the District, including tracking available commodities and recommending the best usage of available funds;
Selects and orders necessary apparel for food service employees;
Manages the ordering and delivery of commodities shipped from the District warehouse;
Acts as a "troubleshooter" to correct daily problems arising daily with respect to the District's food service operations;
With respect to facilities' needs and problems arising in the cafeteria areas of school buildings, acts as the interface with the Facility Operations and Planning Department;
Assists in controlling departmental expenses within established budgets and exercises sound fiscal judgment in District financial matters;
Participates in the hiring and development of employees to staff assigned functions; evaluates subordinates' performance;
Keeps abreast of the latest developments in the field of food service through reading, attendance at seminars and conferences, etc;
Other duties as may be assigned.
Working Conditions: Office and school cafeteria/kitchen environments. Occasional extra hours, local travel and occasional interstate travel are required. Current L-2 Food Services Certification by New York State is highly recommended.
