Building Maintenance Director

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Building Maintenance/Take the Helm Director is responsible for ensuring
the optimal functioning of building systems including mechanical, HVAC, fire/life
safety, plumbing, etc. In addition to supervising maintenance staff, the
Building Maintenance Director will perform preventative, routine, and
emergency maintenance service and repairs in the areas of plumbing,
carpentry, painting, plastering, machine servicing, electrical, and swimming
pool maintenance.
This position will also oversee the Take the Helm as the program director boatbuilding and middle school wood working program providing students with a
safe, and fun environment that teaches basic wood-working and leadership
skills. The Shop Director will directly oversee; in conjunction with the Associate
and Executive Director, the building of Take the Helm boats, S.T.E.M Workshop
wood projects, and other projects in the shop area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Schedule building activities for each day of Take the Helm and the Middle
School S.T.E.M Workshop
2. Assigning tasks to each student so that work tasks are equally distributed
among the whole group.
3. Makes purchases for wood-working projects.
4. Incorporates and adheres to all preventative maintenance program to
ensures the facilities and all of its equipment is kept in good running
condition at all times
5. Assembles moves and maintains equipment as instructed
6. Performs advanced maintenance including but not limited to electrical,
woodworking, building repair, pool pumps and plumbing and cleaning
7. Removes and notifies necessary staff immediately of any damages or unsafe
equipment that needs to be replaced
8. Being punctual and showing up for all shifts. If calling out, finding a
replacement and communicating with the Take the Helm Program.

9. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid.
2. Must be 21 years of age with a minimum of 5 years in general building
maintenance.
3. 3-5 years experience in general wood-working, and/or boat-building
4. Certified Pool Operator License(preferred)
5. Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.
6. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and
economic segments of the community
7. Previous customer service, sales or related experience.
8. Basic knowledge of computers.
