COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR - CONTRACT POSITION

The Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council is seeking an experienced Communications Coordinator. This is a professional position responsible for messaging strategy and plans, coordinating special events, overseeing annual communications plans and social media outreach, media relations and providing development support. Candidates must have demonstrated commitment to people with developmental disabilities and their families.

This is a contract position up to 37.5 hours per week; the pay rate is $31.00 per hour. This position will be in person but eligible for hybrid. The candidate will occasionally be required to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends. Occasional in-state and out-of-state travel is also required. Position is contingent upon Federal funding.

Key responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to: 

· Coordinating short term/long term communications plans

· Responsible for designing Council unified digital marketing materials and video content.

· Agency website maintenance through Mass.gov Content Management System (CMS)

· Media advisories and releases

· Oversee content and use of agency digital and social media platforms, provide oversight to staff regarding agency social media activities, monitor social media postings.

· Coordinate annual Legislative Reception and provide on-site operational support, including photography/videography, media relations, and event set up/breakdown, as well as coordinate marketing materials, signage, and event promotion.

· Assist in the planning and execution of the annual Paul W. Spooner Generational Leadership Summit, maintaining associated webpage through WordPress.

· Work alongside Primary Records Access Officer to coordinate public records requests and requests from government officials.

· Supporting biennial legislative bill sharing (briefing).

· Liaison to stakeholder groups and community engagement opportunities.

  • Exhibit autonomy in implementing assignments; uses authority as appropriate for the position and accurately identifies actions requiring supervisory review and/or approval.

  • Contribute and be a resource to State Plan goals and activities as assigned.

  • Complete state mandatory and assigned professional development training that improves or expands on professional skills sets needed by the job function as well as the organization.

  • Contribute and/or assist in the development and implementation of the MDDC’s State Plan and the completion of the Annual Program Performance Report.

  • Assist in the development of special projects.

  • Perform related duties as required.

 

Candidates for this position must possess the following qualifications:

· Must have at least two years’ experience or a bachelor’s degree with a major in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field.

· Must have strong written communication skills and some research experience. 

· Knowledge of principles and practices of public relations, including AP Style.

· Knowledge of marketing strategy and tactics.

· Demonstrated skill in external communications, public and media relations, social media, and presentations.

· Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

· Ability to work independently, meet time-pressure deadlines, and manage multiple tasks and priorities in meeting the demands of the position.

· Ability to write professionally, clearly, and succinctly.

· Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

· Strong analytical skills.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office, and various social media platforms.

· Ability to maintain digital accessibility across materials.

· Experience with, or understanding of, podcast hosting platforms preferred.

· Experience with website management (WordPress), and email marketing platforms such as Constant Contact, Survey Monkey and Canva.

· Experience in using online tools, such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram
