RESPONSIBILITY:
As a Product Engineer I at McGard, you will manage technical issues for designated area of responsibility. Develop new product designs and improve existing product designs as well as manage technical issues. Work closely with sales to ensure we are proceeding in the proper product direction. Ensure other departments are properly supporting the products. Provide direct support to the customer.
JOB DUTIES:
- The Product Engineer is responsible for all aspects of product development including concept development, prototyping, product development, product testing, customer presentation, defining manufacturing process, ensuring successful initial production run, and staying within project budget.
- Meet the time constraints provided at the start of the project and ensure every new product is launched successfully.
- If the product designs are delegated to Design Engineers, then the Product Engineer shall ensure the Design Engineer understands the design objectives and the final design meets these requirements.
- All design projects should follow the latest Engineering Design Plan. Create and maintain detailed product specifications, engineering drawings, and documentation.
- Stay within the design parameters provided at the start of the improvement project.
- Will design experiments, make product modifications, conduct design verification testing, and will make changes to the part prints and processes.
- Support level projects without direct responsibility to customers/market segment. Coordinates projects while relying on Team Lead or higher-level engineers for guidance throughout the project with decisions and direction.
- Work with cross-functional teams, including sales, design engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to drive successful product launches and continuous improvement of existing products.
- Domestic and international travel may be required to support projects, manage customer issues, or assist sales.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME / BSMET) or a related field. GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred.
- Proficiency in CAD software and 2D drawing development. Experience with PTC Creo Parametric and Windchill is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality control principles, and material and strength analysis.
- Design failure mode and effect analysis (DFMEA) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience.
- Familiarity with the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) production part approval process (PPAP).
