Dean of Student Support
Job Description
Primary Purpose:
The Dean of Student Support is a key member of the school administrative team, responsible for providing administrative leadership and oversight for special education and Section 504 services under the direction of the campus principal at the campus level. This position supports the campus special education team in delivering high-quality instructional practices, ensures compliance with federal, state, and district policies, and strengthens collaboration between teachers, students, and families. The Dean of Student Support plays a pivotal role in improving student outcomes for special populations by coaching teachers, managing compliance requirements, and serving as the liaison between the campus and district special education offices.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Master's degree or degree in progress in educational administration, special education or related field
- Valid Texas principal certification or enrollment in a principal certification program required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Understanding of special education law, compliance and best practices
- Ability to coach and support special education classrooms, teachers, and case managers
- Ability to coach the implementation of best practices in special education classrooms
- Strong knowledge of ARD meeting facilitation and IEP development; modification and accommodation implementation
- Familiarity with Section 504 compliance and accommodations
- Ability to implement policy and procedures
- Ability to interpret data
- Excellent organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- Minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience required
- Experience as a special education team lead, department chair, instructional coach, or other appropriate leadership experience preferred
