Job Description
Job Overview: The Restaurant Server will serve food and beverages in a timely manner and engage with guests to ensure an awesome experience. Your usual schedule will typically be about 6 AM to 2 PM or7 AM-3 PM, although it may shift due to business needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Take guest orders and serve food and beverages using established hotel standards.
- Complete all IHG and hotel training.
- Monitor guest behavior and alcohol consumption to determine when alcohol service should cease.
- Check identification of guests appearing to be under 40 years of age.
- Notify management of incidents involving excessive alcohol consumption or impaired condition of guests.
- Clean and maintain workspace.
- Perform pre- and post-shift duties, such as cleaning and stocking.
- Engage with guests and colleagues using D.A.R.E. to Connect behaviors.
- Follow hotel safety protocols and procedures at all times; immediately report any safety/service incident to the Restaurant Manager or the Person In Charge (PIC).
- Perform additional duties as necessary and assigned.
Specific Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong problem-solving and reasoning skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Communication skills, written and verbal, in the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
- Ability to navigate necessary software and applications.
- Compliance with local laws regarding food handling or serving of alcohol, including passing the ServSafe Alcohol Safety class and exam.
- Knowledge of table service standards, appropriate table settings, and service ware, as well as all menu items and methods of preparation.
- Ability to engage with guests and colleagues.
Physical Demands:
- Most work tasks are performed indoors; temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems. Must be able to work in extreme temperatures, like freezers (-10 ºF) and kitchens (+110 ºF), possibly for one hour or more.
- Must be able to lift and transport items weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and maneuver carts or equipment weighing up to 250 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length.
- Must be able to maneuver between tables and in tight spaces.
- Must be able to position self to fulfill cleaning tasks.
Qualifications and Requirements
A high school or equivalent education is preferred. Minimum of six months of prior food service experience is preferred. Must be at the minimum age to serve alcohol in line with any local legislative requirements.
Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, associates may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings are required.
Upon employment, all associates are required to fully comply with Crowne Plaza Lansing rules and regulations for the safe and effective operations of the Hotel’s facilities. Associates who violate Hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including, separation.
