TITLE: Media Specialist/Innovation Coach
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: To teach students according to county and state policy, mission, core beliefs, academic goals, and target areas.
To provide all students with an enriched media environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite the intellectual growth and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of media or library resources. The person employed as a Innovation Coach will work with the innovation coordinator, classroom teachers and interventionist is to support and enhance classroom instruction through STEAM and innovative learning initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Possess a valid West Virginia Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in the area of Technology Integration Specialist or Media or Library Science.
• Completion of a successful background check.
• Ability to teach all levels and types of Media courses.
• Experience teaching Cross Curricular content preferred.
• Experience in presenting STEM/STEAM based activities.
• Experience teaching Tiered Instruction preferred.
• Experience in modeling lessons for teachers.
• Experience in being a resource for teachers.
• Experience with differentiating adapting instruction.
• Demonstrated experience with technical craft and/or building projects.
• Basic knowledge of engineering/design process.
• Experience working with youth in an instructional setting such as a classroom.
• Experience with facilitating a learning environment for minimum group of 10 students.
• Working knowledge of variety of educational technology such as electronics, robotics, 3-D printing, sewing, physical computing, and crafts mediums such as wood, metal and textiles OR curiosity and commitment to develop such skills.
• Working knowledge of tools and equipment specific to program projects.
• Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
• Strong planning, project and time management skills to effectively run program and oversee hands-on student projects.

• Demonstrated ability to provide differentiated instruction and intervention to students exhibiting a wide range of abilities and behaviors.
• Any additional combination of training or experience which would lead to successful employment as a High School Media Specialist.

• Conduct staff development in the area of technology integration, the new West Virginia Learning Skills and Technology Tools Content Standards and Objectives (Policy 2520.14), educator technology standards as reflected in West Virginia Policy 5310 Performance Evaluation of School Personnel and various statewide technology resources as well as county/school software applications.
• Participate in professional development in regard to maintaining most current certification.
• Operate and supervise the media center to which assigned.
• Evaluate, select and requisition new media or library materials and assist teachers in selection of new media and instructional materials.
• Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all media center materials and instruct teachers and students on use of the system.
• Arrange for inter-media center loan of materials of interest or use to teachers.
• Work with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of media center resources. Establishes a positive co-teaching environment while working with classroom teachers.
• Provide design process-based instruction for craft, technical or building projects.
• Collaborates with classroom teachers to integrate STEAM Concepts and innovative teaching strategies.
• Works with innovation coordinator to develop and implement a k-12 STEAM Curriculum.
• Works with Innovation Coordinator to develop and implement professional development in innovative teaching strategies.
• Collaborates with principals and the innovation coordinator to identify STEAM Innovation priorities for assigned programmatic levels.
• Collaborates with peers to write curricular units using Habits of Mind and the Understanding by Design framework and participates in associated training and professional development.
• Utilizes multiple instructional technologies to engage students and enhance instructional practices for students.
• Assist with creating and maintaining collaborative spaces in schools.
• Maintains professional competence through staff development provided by the district and incorporates the techniques into everyday instruction.
• Maintains professional competences through self-selected professional growth activities.
• Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
• Ensures appropriate alignment between district curriculum, both state and national standards and the department of education.
• Participates actively in regional and national professional development opportunities towards sharing district-wide curriculum, innovation, and technology practices and bring new ideas and best practices into the district.
• Works with staff to promote and integrate inquiry or project-based learning opportunities within the traditional curriculum to engage stents more deeply in their learning experiences.
• Facilitates and nurtures community, university and professional partnerships.
• Leads and/or participates in school and district wide initiatives (ex: Computational Thinking, Dignity and Respect, Green and Healthy Schools Academy).
• Supports Innovation Coach in collecting and utilizing date to make technology decisions
• Promotes and adheres to the district mission, core beliefs, academic goals and target areas.
• Utilize a variety of research-based instructional strategies.
• Motivate and engage teachers in learning, problem solving, and collaboration.
• Engage in collaborative learning opportunities for self-renewal with colleagues.
