Job Description

POSITION:  Cafeteria Manager (Full Day)

CLASSIFICATION: Cafeteria Manager for the 2026 Summer Feeding Program 

LOCATION:  Green Bank Elementary-Middle School

SUPERVISOR: Site Coordinator and District Director(s) of Summer Programs

SUMMER TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

July 3, 2026 through August 3, 2026 - this is a full day position, times to be determined as needed to cover breakfast and lunch meals

PREP DAYS: July 3, 2026 (Opening) and August 3, 2026 (Closing)

PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS:  July 6, 2026 through July 31, 2026 
(Monday - Thursday, excluding July 4, 2026 - Paid holidays are not part of this contract).

Breakfast: 8:00am-8:45am

Lunch:  11:30am-12pm
 

SALARY:
Based on Pocahontas County Schools service personnel salary index.
All Summer School positions will be paid only on days Summer School is in session, pending adequate staffing and student enrollment. Paid holidays are not part of this contract.
 

Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8:

Cafeteria manager: a person employed to direct the operation of a food services program in a school, including assigning duties to employees, approving requisitions for supplies and repairs, keeping inventories, inspecting areas to maintain high standards of sanitation, preparing financial reports and keeping records pertinent to food services of a school.

 

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18A-2-5
  • Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-10
  • Hold or qualify for Cook Classification according to WV Code §18-20-2 and WVBE Policy 5314.01

     

 PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

Work Habits: observation of work hours, attendance, safety practices, meeting deadlines, flexibility, taking the initiative, and positive attitude
Performance: work judgment, planning and organizing, quality of work, taking responsibility, following instructions, efficiency under stress, and the operation and care of equipment
Professional Learning: knowledge of job responsibilities and participation in job-related trainings

Duties/Responsibilities:  

  • Provide for the ordering, preparation and servicing of meals, clean kitchen and dining area, pick-up food deliveries, and upkeep of inventory and record keeping, be responsible for meal distribution (if applicable), and other duties as assigned by County Coordinator and Director of Child Nutrition, as needed. Menu planning according to SFSP.
  • Monitor/assist in receiving/restocking merchandise, checking quality, freshness and temperature requirements.
  • Must be knowledgeable of and correctly use the mixer, convection oven, slicer, steam equipment, food processor, dishwasher, disposal, warmer, tilt skillet, and range.
  • Responsible for safe proper equipment use, care, cleanliness, and reporting needed repairs.
  • Maintain strict personal hygiene practices and dress according to established county policies and local health regulations.
  • Maintain daily flow of communication between school and county office via internet/Email in case of emergency food alert recalls, delivery changes, shortages, substitutions, etc.
  • Must portray positive work habits, good decision making and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Must be able to perform duties with little supervision.
  • Utilize USDA resource materials, i.e., Good Buying Guide & Recipe Books, when completing tasks in Child Nutrition Programs.
  • Must be able to lift containers and cases of food weighing a minimum of fifty (50) pounds using proper lifting techniques and safe work habits.
  • Must be knowledgeable and assist in preparing quality and safe meals that are adapted for special needs students.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Adhere to the Pocahontas County School Policy 4210Employee Code of Conduct
  • Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff members.
