Summary:
The Head Start Behavior Consultant  is responsible for completing observations, recommending strategies to improve individual student behavior, recommending strategies to improve the overall classroom climate, modeling recommended strategies to staff, and facilitating professional development relative to behavior management.
 
Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Perform classroom observations of children referred with significant behavior concerns and recommend strategies for improvements when appropriate.
  2. Support classroom staff in determining whether behaviors are appropriate or atypical considering the child's age and development.
  3. Collect parent and teacher feedback, along with classroom observations, to determine appropriate strategies for each child.
  4. Utilize the Teaching Pyramid model to recommend strategies and resources to improve the overall climate of classrooms and social and emotional well-being of all enrolled children.
  5. Model strategies to classroom staff and families as needed.
  6. Provide feedback on staff implementation of strategies following modeling and rehearsal with Behavior Specialist.
  7. Cooperate with evaluation team when children require further evaluation and specialized services to ensure all plans for children are cohesive, implemented, and supportive of HS/EHS standards.
  8. Provide resources to families to support families with behavior challenges in the home.
  9. Monitor and follow-up on implementation of child and classroom specific plans.
  10. Maintain records and data related to evaluations, strategies, and student/classroom progress, following all confidentiality requirements.
  11. Perform other duties as required.

 
Qualifications:

  1. Education and Experience
    1. Master's Degree required, Education in Early Childhood or Elementary education strongly preferred
    2. Board Certified Behavior Analyst credential or willingness to obtain within 3 years required
    3. At least 5 years of teaching experience in a preschool environment strongly preferred
    4. Multilingual, or with a strong knowledge of the legal and ethical concerns related to appropriate interpretation and translation services in an educational setting strongly preferred
  2. Professional Certifications
    1. Licensed Behavior Specialist Consultant in Pennsylvania required
    2. Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License required

Salary:
Project, Level 14, $68,981 - $86,823/yr. 
*Placement on scale commensurate to years of experience in similar positions*
260 day position, Monday-Friday, 7.5 hrs/day
